Protect an Iconic Greenwich Landmark, help save 2 Greenwich Avenue.
A landmark on Greenwich Avenue is facing demolition, and we need your voice now. 2 Greenwich Avenue — the historic Isaac L. Mead Building — along with several adjacent contributing historic buildings, is under threat of demolition. Built in 1878 and listed in the National Register of Historic Places, it is believed to be the first brick building constructed in the Borough of Greenwich and anchors the gateway to our downtown. While its National Register listing does not legally prevent demolition, it confirms what generations of residents already know: this is one of the most historically significant buildings in our community.
The Greenwich Historical Society is not opposed to redevelopment. We believe thriving communities honor both their history and their future, and we are urging the Town to pursue thoughtful redevelopment that preserves the historic character that makes Greenwich Avenue one of New England's most distinctive downtowns.

Historic places cannot be recreated once they are gone. Once demolished, 2 Greenwich Avenue and its neighboring buildings can never be replaced — but with your help, we can urge decision-makers to explore every feasible alternative that preserves this irreplaceable piece of Greenwich's history.
