Sigma Omicron Epsilon, Inc was founded on March 30, 1997 on the campus of East Carolina University. Sigma Omicron Epsilon, Inc. has continued to blossom.

Seven motivated young women had a vision to create an organization whose principles were to expand awareness of Native American culture and support the Education and Unity of its members and Native American women in higher education. This vision was brought to light and Sigma Omicron Epsilon, Inc was founded on March 30th, 1997 on the campus of East Carolina University. has continued to blossom, with women upholding the founding principles throughout the United States.

This past Sunday in Greenville, NC, some of our sisters had the honor of celebrating Brandy Freeman, our 2026 R.O.S.E. Scholar! 🖤💛

Over a special dinner, we presented Brandy with her scholarship check, a yellow rose bush, plaque, and lots of love as she prepares for her next chapter. 🎉

Brandy will be attending UNC Pembroke to pursue her degree in Social Work & American Indian Studies—we know she will be great!📚✨🦋

Every year, one young lady is chosen to receive our sorority’s R.O.S.E (Reaching Others through Service and Education) scholarship. This scholarship was established to uplift Native Women by encouraging and empowering them throughout their educational, personal, and professional careers. Under this sisterhood, we strongly believe in promoting Culture and Education First.🪶📚

Our 2026 R.O.S.E Scholarship recipient is Brandy Freeman. Brandy will be attending University of North Carolina at Pembroke in the upcoming fall to pursue a degree in Social Work and American Indian Studies. Brandy is a member of the Haliwa-Saponi Tribe. Brandy’s deep cultural roots in the Haliwa-Saponi Tribe have shaped and fueled her future professional career, as she wants to use her education to address challenges facing Native communities, including educational disparities, mental health concerns, and barriers to resources.

Congratulations Brandy, we look forward to seeing you succeed in all that you do during your college career, as our 2026 R.O.S.E recipient!✨🦋

Today is National Missing & Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW) Day. Sigma Omicron Epsilon would like to bring light to this day, as it is a day to honor and raise awareness about the major crisis of violence against our Indigenous women and girls. Today we remember the women and girls who were taken away from our Indigenous relatives as a result of violence…and today, we ❤️

We are so proud of our Sister, Alicia Freeman, who received the 2026 Mental Health First Aid Coordinator of the Year award from the National Council for Mental Wellbeing! She was honored at the organization’s annual MHFA Summit on April 26, 2026.
