On behalf of Heartoscope and the Greenville Kappas, we want to thank everyone who made yesterday's 4th Annual SCHOOL DAZE: Back to School Event a great success!

TOGETHER WE:
•Provided over 400 students with back to school resources (Backpacks, School Supplies, Mental Health Resources, Community Programs, etc.)
•Provided 100+ FREE PHYSICALS
•Provided Vaccinations
•Distributed gun locks to parents
•Completed nearly 30 voter registrations

Families also enjoyed an Ice Cream Meet-and-Greet with Superintendent Dr. Steve M Lassiter Jr and delicious grilled food!!

Contentnea Health is also offering VACCINATIONS during the event! If your child needs shots, please bring:

•Insurance or Medicaid card
•OR proof of income (for sliding scale options)

🎉 Heartoscope TURNS 5 TODAY! 🎨✨

Five years ago, we planted a vision rooted in creativity, healing, and equity. Today, we celebrate a movement that has touched thousands and transformed heARTs across Greenville—and beyond! Look at some of the things WE did together:

🔸 Produced an award-winning PSA that gained international recognition
🔸 Served 3,000+ children with arts-based healing
🔸 Installed a public art refrigerator at an underserved elementary school—combining nourishment with creativity and care
🔸 Hosted 5 successful "HeART of the City" Arts Festivals
🔸 Led 5 seasons of HeART Exchange weekends
🔸 Installed community murals in West Greenville
🔸 Hosted 3 powerful Back-to-School w/ Greenville Kappas
🔸Hosted 3 successful Christmas Giveaways
🔸 Provided Therapeutic Art classes to youth at Pitt Academy
🔸 Curated 3 HeART Exhibits where students kept 100% of their proceeds, supporting local economic growth

Still soaking it all in…
HeART of the City Vol. 5 was nothing short of amazing. Five years of laughter, love, art, and community — and with over 400 attendees, this year was the most powerful yet. 🥹

We are so incredibly grateful to every performer, vendor, volunteer, family, and friend who poured into this space and helped make it what it was. It’s humbling to know that what started as a vision has grown into a tradition that continues to uplift, inspire, and celebrate the soul of this city.

Thank you for showing up, year after year — for reminding us that when we center community, we create magic.

Last year, we joined forces with Emerge Gallery and Art Center & the owner of FORD + SHEP to install the Food From The HeART refrigerator at South Greenville Elementary School. The purpose of this project is to help address food insecurities within local schools. This refrigerator serves as a PUBLIC ART display as well a way for our students to access FRESH, PERISHABLE foods!

The goal is to keep this fridge stocked consistently! Thank you to community members such as Arjenae Jones Williams & Senator Kandie Smith who I know have stepped up to ensure that. Also a special thank you to Kim Presley, Terri Ham, and Mayor Pro-tem Monica P. Daniels for your donations for today's restock!

We are so honored to be named one of the recipients of the 2024-2025 GRASSROOTS GRANT!

A sincere thank you to the North Carolina Arts Council Grassroots Arts Program and the Pitt County Arts Council at Emerge for this honor.

This grant will allow us to continue our use of art as a tool for healing, entrepreneurship, cultural preservation, and economic development in underserved communities.

As the kids head back into the classrooms tomorrow, we just want to send a sincere thank you to EVERYONE who supported our 3rd Annual "SCHOOL DAZE" Back 2 School Event!

With the help of our community sponsors & partners we were able to serve nearly 300 students, with backpacks, food, activities, extra-curricular registrations, mental health, immunization, and dental care info etc.

A special thank you to our medical providers and their teams, who were able perform FREE SPORTS PHYSICALS for 50 students!

Thank you to Dr. Lassiter for meeting with families during our Ice Cream Social Meet & Greet hosted in his honor. We are looking forward to a successful year!

THANK YOU to EVERY VENDOR and VOLUNTEER! Without you all, NONE of this would be possible.
