🇺🇸 TODAY WAS ABOUT DISCIPLINE. 🇺🇸
Today at drill, the Rogue Valley Young Marines were tested — not on how fast they could run or how many push-ups they could do, but on their discipline, bearing, leadership, and ability to push through when things got difficult.
We love our fun days. We love the activities, trips, competitions, and opportunities that come with being a Young Marine. But if we want the fun days, the discipline days have to come too.
Sometimes, getting back into that disciplined mindset after having a fun day is one of the hardest things to do.
But it can also be one of the most rewarding.
Today was about remembering the little things that eventually become BIG things:
🇺🇸 Snapping to attention when you’re addressed.
🇺🇸 Maintaining your bearing while standing in formation.
🇺🇸 Keeping your uniform squared away because you never know when an inspection is coming.
🇺🇸 Being prepared to step forward and lead when your name is called.
🇺🇸 Teaching a class even when you weren’t given time to prepare.
🇺🇸 Continuing to push when your mind is telling you that you’re done.
These might seem like small lessons during a Saturday drill, but they’re bigger than that.
They’re life lessons.
Someday, nobody is going to tell these kids to stand at attention or inspect their uniform. But they will be expected to show up prepared, take pride in themselves, handle pressure, lead when they’re needed, and keep going when something gets difficult.
That’s what days like today are building.

Today you found your command voice and were called upon to teach a map and compass class with absolutely no preparation. You stepped up, took control, and did an awesome job. That’s leadership!

You continued to push even when you felt like you couldn’t. You didn’t quit, and that determination is exactly what we want to see. Be proud of yourself!

Congratulations to Sgt Wheeler, who has officially stepped into the role of our new Training Chief! Your leadership, knowledge, and willingness to step up have earned you this responsibility. We’re excited to watch you take ownership of our training program and continue developing the Young Marines around you.
And congratulations to Pvt Pantages, our new Assistant Training Chief! This is an opportunity to learn, grow, take initiative, and work alongside your Training Chief to help make our unit stronger.
These billets aren’t just titles — they’re responsibilities. They’re opportunities to lead by example, help others succeed, and continue developing into the leaders we know you can become.
Today wasn’t necessarily an easy drill.
But easy isn’t always where growth happens.
We’re proud of every Young Marine who walked away today having learned something about discipline, leadership, perseverance — and themselves.
