🚨 PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT 🚨
Defenders, it is with a heavy heart that we share the loss of a recently retired Defender. Previously we were notified of this loss but we withheld this information out of respect for the family and friends affected by this tragic loss.
On May 23rd, 2026, Sloan lost his battle with Mental Health.

Sloan was known to be a role-model SNCO that was always armed with teachings and mentorship. He was a leader that was never afraid of a challenge or making the difficult decision. After his active duty service, he continued to serve with Defenders, still pouring into past and present Airmen. His presence was always uplifting, cheerful and filled with laughs.
Retired MSgt Kalina’s life and legacy was honored on 28 May 2026 with family, friends and fellow Defenders at JB Charleston.
The Brave Badge Initiative extends our deepest sympathies to his family, co-workers, and all of his friends. Please join us in keeping his family and friends in our thoughts and prayers in this time of need.
