Crossing Borders

Crossing Borders Since 2003 we've helped North Korean refugees in China with food, medical assistance and job training.

Crossing Borders is a faith-based organization dedicated to helping North Korean refugees who cross the border to China for food and medical assistance. We also have several orphanages, which house children whose parents have abandoned or cannot take care of them.

Children in South Korea were taught to call 113 if they thought they spotted a North Korean spy. Some of the 'clues' given in school were wild, like 'an old man running' or a suspicious wig.

A dance teacher in Pyongsong was arrested for teaching Western-style dance moves like hip hop and K-pop to students. Sadly, it appears some of the children involved may have also been arrested for these lessons. Dancing shouldn't lead to arrest.

Hosts Sug Shin and Dan Chung explore North Korea’s recent arrest of a woman for teaching children K-Pop dance moves. They wade into North Korea’s recent history with South Korean media, North Korea’s own attempts to start a pop group, Dan’s experiences with North Korean entertainers/waitresses/spies and much more.

Yeonnalligi, also known as kite-flying, is a popular activity during the Korean Lunar New Year. It is a joyful and symbolic activity, considered as a way to let go of old worries and send wishes for the New Year into the sky. For Korean defectors in China who are in hiding because of their illegal status, let us pray that they may cast their worries and care on God, who cares for them.
