One of our favorite meetings of the years is hosting our annual scholarship recipients. Congratulations to Kaylee and Alexis. You inspire us and we wish you luck on your future endeavors. We also enjoyed having Jake, a guest speaker, from Tree Pittsburgh. Tree Pittsburgh is an environmental nonprofit dedicated to strengthening community by restoring and protecting the urban forest through tree planting and care, education, and land conservation. Summer is one of the hardest times of year for food pantry shelves to remain stocked. Kids are home from school, routines change, and donations often dip. If you’d like to help, we’ll be open this Saturday for donation drop-offs. Most-needed items include laundry detergent, canned tuna, boxed sides, peanut butter and snack foods.

Sponsor spot light: The Wheelfish has been supporting the Shaler Rotary club and our golf outing fundraiser for over a decade ever since they held our Trac chair for a local veteran fundraiser there. We want to thank them for their continued support. Wednesdays are our favorite night at wheelfish. $1 wings and competing in Trivia night. Watch out for Team Uncle Steve’s Silver Foxes.

The Epic Day of Service is a local, national, and global movement where Rotary clubs volunteer for community service projects. Shaler Rotary was joined with our friends from the Hampton and Northern Allegheny clubs and volunteers for the Allegheny Land trust for some Epic trail maintenance and litter clean up at Girty’s Woods in Millvale.

Volunteer opportunity with VFW post 9199 and American Legion post 785 to place flags on at Veterans graves on Friday May 22nd

Shaler American Legion Post 785 and VFW Post 9199 will conduct a Memorial Day Service on Monday, May 25 at 11:30am. The service will be conducted at the flagstaff/cannon at the Mt. Royal Cemetery.
Volunteers are needed to place flags on veteran graves on Friday, May 22 at 9:30am, 2:00pm, and 6:00pm.

Congratulations to Rotarian Casey Dunaway for receiving her first Paul Harris fellow and we want to thank her for 5 years of community service in Shaler Rotary. Also recognized was Dr Clint Cable with a Paul Harris +3 . Shaler club also received a banner of recognition for 100% participation in supporting and donating to the Rotary Foundations annual share fund which is the giving arm of Rotary that supports projects locally and globally.
