Flying Changes is assisting the owners of two beloved senior horses who are looking for the perfect next chapter as their longtime owners prepare to slow down due to health issues.

Located in Ligonier, PA, these horses have been cherished family members and have received exceptional lifelong care, including regular veterinary, dental, and farrier attention. Both are current on vaccinations, dentals, Coggins testing, and farrier care. They are barefoot with good feet and are well-mannered, respectful, and easy to handle. They're also neat in their stalls.

🔥 Firecracker ("Fire") • 27-year-old Arabian gelding • 14.3 hh • Flashy chestnut with four white stockings and a blaze • Owned by his family since he was just 3 years old

Fire was recently diagnosed with Cushing's Disease and has been started on Prascend. He has tolerated the medication very well with no change in appetite. His glucose and leptin levels are normal, so there are currently no concerns regarding Equine Metabolic Syndrome. Aside from his Cushings diagnosis, Fire is healthy and happy. He loves attention and being groomed.

💕 Angel • 23-year-old mare • 14.3 hh • Dark bay with a white blaze • Half Arabian (other half unknown) • Owned by her current family since 2018

Angel is an easy keeper who enjoys attention and companionship.

Both horses are currently maintained on Triple Crown Senior and a ration balancer. Fire has lost a bit of weight this year due to his Cushings diagnosis, so alfalfa cubes have been added to his diet to help him regain optimal condition.

These two sweet seniors are broke to ride, although it has been several years since either has been under saddle. Any return to riding should be approached slowly and thoughtfully, with plenty of time to rebuild their fitness. Leisurely rides around the farm would be ideal for them.

🏡 Their owners would love for Fire and Angel to stay together, but would consider separate homes if the right situations were found for both horses.

COURTESY POST: 🌟 Luna — Ready for Her Next Chapter 🌟

We are partnering with Second Chance Equine Association to find a home for a mare whose elderly owner lost her beloved gelding and wants her mare, Luna, to find a loving home with other horses. Here's what Second Chance has to say about this lovely girl:

Luna is a 22‑year‑old, 16HH off‑the‑track Thoroughbred who has spent the last several months settling in with us and showing us just how kind, affectionate, and people‑oriented she truly is. We’ve tried so hard to get a good picture of her, but she has made it abundantly clear that she is not the most photogenic member of the herd. What she lacks in camera readiness, she more than makes up for with goofy expressions and a knack for keeping us laughing.

Luna came to us after being placed through another rescue, so we’re uncertain about her history. We do know that at some point she experienced a tendon injury in a hind leg, though we don’t know when it occurred or which leg was affected. The people at that rescue shared that Luna made it clear she was not happy being saddled, and they ultimately chose not to attempt riding her. Her reaction may have stemmed from an unpleasant past experience under saddle, possible discomfort related to her prior injury, a pinched nerve, improper saddle fit, or just plain sassiness. We want to be upfront that Luna could potentially be rideable with veterinary clearance, patience, and a firm but KIND hand—but then again she may not be.

Luna does experience some anxiety in a stall, but she’s been making steady progress as we work with her on confidence, grooming, and ground manners. She genuinely tries to please and responds beautifully to calm, consistent handling.

She also thrives in the company of other horses and settles best when she has equine friends nearby. She gets along well in turnout and enjoys being part of a herd, making her a wonderful fit for a home with social horses.

Luna does have a racing tattoo on her lip, but it’s extremely blurry, and we haven’t been able to gather any additional information from it. We’ve only loaded her on a trailer once, and she handled it like a pro.

She is up to date on vaccinations, and her hoof care is current, so she’s ready for the next step in her journey.

Ellie and Butter's owner is facing a devastating and progressive health condition that is forcing the family to find these two a new home.

Ellie and Butter are VERY loved, very healthy, and both are up to date on all medical care, vaccines, deworming, hoof care. Allegheny Equine Associates has been their vet for years.

We are hoping to place them together due to Ellie's age and the fact that they are the very best of friends.

Ellie is an aged (30+) Quarter Horse mare - healthy with no chronic health issues. She is affectionate, has good ground manners, and no stable vices. She loves her pasture time and is easy to work around on the ground. Because of her age, she's looking for a companion home.

Butter is a 13 year old gelded Miniature Horse. He also loves his pasture time and kicking up his heels. His turnout on pasture must be limited with a grazing muzzle due to a history of founder. A new home with a dry lot would be ideal so he could be out more. He is also affectionate and has no stable vices, but would be best with a confident handler so he doesn't attempt to test boundaries! :)

COURTESY POST UPDATE: The interest in Chloe, Hope, and Otto has been overwhelming. We believe we’ve found homes for each of them. Please continue to watch our page though - we have several horses that need homes we’ll be posting in the upcoming weeks.

We are assisting an elderly horse owner in the Sharon, PA area who is no longer physically able to care for all the animals on her farm. Her property was once a boarding facility, and over the years several owners stopped paying board altogether and abandoned their horses. She has asked Flying Changes for help finding new homes as soon as possible for three Thoroughbreds:

Chloe is 13–14-year-old, 16.2 hh chestnut Thoroughbred mare with a blaze and four white stockings. While much of her history is unknown, Chloe was lightly ridden until her owner stopped paying board. Chloe is a flashy girl with all that chrome, and we could easily see her doing well in the show ring (flatwork only). Although she IS a mare, she’s been easy to handle and work around.

Hope is a 7-year-old, 16.1 hh dark bay Thoroughbred mare that came from a severe abuse and abandonment situation in West Virginia several years ago. She is a quiet, sensitive soul who will shut down when stressed. She truly needs her own person — someone patient and understanding who will take the time to earn her trust and show her consistent love. Hope is sound and broke to ride. In the right hands, this sweet girl has the potential to blossom.

Otto is a 15–17-year-old, 15.3 hh dark bay Thoroughbred gelding that was signed over to the farm owner last year. He's an easy going, pleasant guy who could use some extra groceries. He loves attention and is always first at the gate whinnying when he sees someone he knows. Otto is sound, broke to ride, and uncomplicated — the type of horse who would fit nicely into many different family or pleasure riding situations. He has been straightforward to handle and a joy to have around.

🐴 All three horses are currently barefoot and scheduled to have their hooves trimmed this Friday. They're all easy to handle and work around. They were vaccinated this fall but due to financial constraints haven’t gotten their spring shots.
