AMOS Health + Hope

AMOS is a Christian healthcare organization dedicated to bringing health and hope to underserved communities in rural Nicaragua. http://www.amoshealth.org

AMOS Health and Hope is a non-profit faith based organization dedicated to improving the health of poor and marginalized rural populations. We use the strategy of community based primary health care to increase health care coverage in areas with limited services. We train lay health workers in rural communities to manage and run their own community clinic, prevent and treat the most common illness

es, and work in community development to address the root causes of poor health such as access to safe water and sanitation. We currently serve a population of over 28,000 people in 25 communities in four departments in Nicaragua – Boaco, Chinandega, Matagalpa, the RACCS, and Managua. We have an incredible staff of medical and public health professionals that accompany, supervise and monitor the health work being done in rural communities. We are committed to implementing interventions that are evidence-based, compassionate and empowering for communities.

This is our photo roundup for August. It was a full month.

In El Ayote, we celebrated the installation of a solar power system, steadier electricity for the health center, and vaccines that stay cold, safe, and ready for whoever needs them.

We also held an early childhood stimulation workshop, where mothers and fathers got to remember what it feels like to be a child again. That’s how you learn to help one.

At AMOS, our staff kept training on water filters, so we can equip more health volunteers and keep bringing safe drinking water to rural communities across Nicaragua.

And of course, the Wellness Club (patients with chronic illnesses club), where women got to work, for their health, and for an old age with dignity.

A share doesn’t buy medicine. It doesn’t walk four hours into the mountains. It doesn’t sit up with a mother at 2 a.m.

But it’s how somebody found out we do.

Everything in this video already happened. The toothbrushes. The meal after the hike. The boxes coming off the truck. The heartbeat.

None of it started with a donation. It started with someone deciding this was worth ten seconds of their attention, and passing it on.

Arlen leads her household, raises two young kids, and for eight years has served as a brigadista in a rural community near Waslala, often the first person her neighbors turn to for care.
That same desire to serve is now taking her further: with an AMOS Seeds of Hope scholarship, she’s on her way to becoming a nurse.
