Memorial Day, 30 May 2026. Members of the Gettysburg Independent Blues gathered together at the downtown cemetery in Lancaster PA today. The ceremonies were officiated by the General George H. Thomas, Camp 19 (which has several members in the Blues) and their SVR Brothers from Gettysburg Camp 112. A joint Color Guard honored the soldiers buried in the exclusively Union section of the cemetery. Visitations were also made to the grave of Major General John F. Reynolds, the highest-ranking Union casualty of the Battle of Gettysburg. Thus, our Memorial Day Obligations concluded, quite literally, with General Order No. 11's original mandate: May 30th. Semper in memoria vives.

From Brother Ron Perisho ... a couple of shots showing the Allied Orders on Parade. We were near the very front ranks, following the Grand Marshal and the Historical Naval Color Guard from the U.S.S. Constitution (down from Boston as a part of our 250th Celebration). Well done Brothers and Sisters, and a big thanks to Brother Ron!

Memorial Day Weekend ... 2026. The Joint Veterans Memorial Day Parade took place today, in spite of a somewhat damp morning and a very muggy afternoon. The Gettysburg Independent Blues, Camp 112, the Jennie Wade Auxiliary, and the Daughters of Salome Stewart Tent 55 were in the advanced guard of the parade once again (Let's hear it for the Home Team!). Photos of the parade itself are soon to be posted, but here are some pics from the "destination" of the parade. After a march down through the cheering crowds on Baltimore Street -- and up the somewhat grueling assent of Cemetery Hill -- the entire parade flowed into the National Cemetery. At the Rostrum, bands played patriotic melodies, inspiring songs were sung, and several speeches were made (including a keynote by Doug Burgum, the U.S. Secretary of the Interior!). The Blues and Camp 112 took great pride in our own Commander, Brother Trevor Taylor, who was again called upon to deliver The Gettysburg Address. // More events to follow! ..

Memorial Day Weekend, Part 2. The Gettysburg Independent Blues continued the rituals, with a Sunday trip to the Upper Bermudian Lutheran Church ... the parish church of former SUVCW Commander-in-Chief, Charlie Kuhn. We attended a Memorial Day ceremony and religious service, complete with a choir that sang the entirety of the Battle Hymn of the Republic. Twenty-Seven Union Soldiers are buried in the church cemetery. Besides Posting and Retrieving the Colors, the Blues marched to the edge of the burial grounds and fired a three-round black powder salute. We take Memorial Day very seriously in Gettysburg; it is a central tenet of our Oath of Obligation. Tomorrow, the Parade!

Today the Gettysburg Independent Blues had their first meeting of the year. Commander Taylor (now 2nd Lieutenant Taylor!) laid out the "campaign" for the year ahead. 2026 promises to be a very busy year for the Blues, as both our reputation and numbers are growing. A hearty welcome to our three newest members from Thomas Camp 19. The planning meeting was most productive, and our new marching banner was unfolded for the first time. The Blues are definitely on the move!
