Unbridled was a Champion American Thoroughbred Racehorse, who won the most prestigious event, The Kentucky Derby in 1990. He finished second in the Preakness, and won the Belmont. He was the champion 3 year old and retired with a career record of 8 wins and over $4million in earnings. We like to think his spirit brings our horses "Unbridled Joy!"

We will always remember the valiant horses who have given their lives in service to the Sport of Kings who's spirits are now free to soar.

After 10 days of thunderstorms, relentless rain, and flooded pastures, Mishegas, Seattle Surprise, Loyalist and Breezy Song ~ finally back where they belong—hoof-deep in green grass and soaking up the sunshine! 🌞🌱

Happy Monday from our very happy retirees who wasted no time making up for lost grazing opportunities. After being grounded by Mother Nature, the pasture party is officially back on at Unbridled Spirits! 🐴💚

Nothing lifts our spirits quite like watching our horses enjoy the simple things—sunshine, fresh grass, and freedom. Here’s to calmer skies and happier trails ahead!

After being trapped in her hotel for two days while waiting out the Illinois tornadoes and severe thunderstorms, Vickie Nitschke finally made it to the USTRR #2 our Bougie Boutique Barn ~ and straight into the waiting embrace of ValentinoTheLover. Showering him with kisses and affection, it was a touching moment to witness as tears filled her eyes.

One thing she couldn’t help but notice was that Alina was no longer by Val’s side. Their bond was special, and her absence is still felt. But life has a way of working in mysterious ways.

Knowing Vickie’s soft spot for chestnut horses, we introduced a younger chestnut gelding Baby Huey as a companion for Valentino to help him through the transition. What started as a friendship has grown into a strong bond between the two horses. His new chestnut pasture mate Huey is now his constant companion, proving once again that while we never replace those we love, new friendships can help mend old hearts.

Good news! After a turbulent week of severe rain, thunderstorms, and 11 reported tornados in Illinois! The sun is finally shining. The horses are kicking up their heels, soaking in the warmth, and rejoicing in the return of blue skies—and so are we!

There’s something special about watching 31 retirees spread out across green pastures after days of sheltering from the storms. Today, the grass is greener, the spirits are higher, and every sunbeam feels like a blessing. Here’s to calmer skies, dry footing, and grateful hearts. ☀️🐴💙

Nothing makes me happier than walking through life with our retirees. In a world that often celebrates what horses can do, we choose to honor who they are. Their worth was never tied to a finish line, and it is a privilege to give them the retirement they earned. While Sierra is clearly not an X Racer, she does walk on beat! 😀 my happy place.

A huge shout-out to our local Blain’s Farm & Fleet for generously donating a full pallet of premium pellet bedding to support the horses in our care.

With the heat and humidity settling in, they recognized our horses’ needs and reached out to help. This kind of kindness reminds us that strong communities are built through partnerships, compassion, and people who care.
