Unbridled was a Champion American Thoroughbred Racehorse, who won the most prestigious event, The Kentucky Derby in 1990. He finished second in the Preakness, and won the Belmont. He was the champion 3 year old and retired with a career record of 8 wins and over $4million in earnings. We like to think his spirit brings our horses "Unbridled Joy!"

We will always remember the valiant horses who have given their lives in service to the Sport of Kings who's spirits are now free to soar.

Tonight at 5:30, April’s May Jumper (17) and Sweet Briar Jane (19) arrived safely at Unbridled Spirits. ❤️🐴

The girls traveled quietly and settled into their stalls quickly. Both were calm, bright-eyed, and already looking comfortable after being welcomed by so many happy faces and helping hands.

Thank you Gail Hirt and Jan Ely for coordinating their final journey into Unbridled Spirits and helping give these two beautiful Thoroughbreds the ending they deserve.

We haven’t brought in any new kill pen horses since 2023, when Mia and Ellie arrived as part of the Texas 27. So tonight was more than an arrival—it was a blessing and a joy, a special thank you to Tina Dunn @ Double Dunn Ranch for opening your stall doors to these special broodmares.

It reminded me of why we do what we do.

These Thoroughbreds have given so much. Now it’s our turn to give back—providing safety, dignity, love, and a wonderful future in sanctuary.

Welcome home, girls. Your worst days are behind you. Your best days are ahead. ❤️

Macho Chrome loves his fans—and he definitely loves the spotlight! 🌟🐴

Here he is with two very special California Chrome fans, Marianne and Fran, affectionately known as the Chromies. ❤️

There’s a touch of greatness in this boy, and while California Chrome stands proudly in Japan, his legacy continues right here at Unbridled Spirits through his progeny.

The chrome may shine a little differently, but the greatness lives on. ✨🐎

Look at the girls watching trailers leave with adopted horses! It’s just about time for Aprils May Jumper to load up to USTRR. 😊

Now it’s decision time… how do you say no to her buddy? 🥹

Aprils May Jumper has spent 90 days in quarantine after being saved among the 31 Thoroughbreds rescued by Gail Hirt, Beyond the Roses, and her incredible army of followers and friends.

Now, after all those weeks of waiting, she has found something she didn’t have before—a friend.

She’s bonded with Sweet Briar Jane, and they’ve become quite the pair. 💕🐴

So now comes the hard part…

How do we say no to her buddy?

Sometimes rescue isn’t just about saving one horse. Sometimes, it’s about recognizing the friendships that help them feel safe, loved, and finally home.
