Geneseo Aisle of Flags

Geneseo Aisle of Flags Honoring our local veterans. Donations may be sent to: PO Box 152 Geneseo, Il 61254 The poles come in three sections. About 95% use the casket flag.

The Beginning

The 'Aisle of Flags' started with 50 flags on Memorial Day 1981 in the city park. It was the enthusiasm of three VFW auxiliary members, Naomi Livengood, Pat Miller Johnson and Dorothy Young who wanted to honor their deceased husbands and family members by flying the veterans flags in the "Aisle of Flags". About the Flags and Poles

The flags fly in honor of deceased veterans from th

e Geneseo area (the veteran must have been born here, or lived here for some portion of their life). The top holds the flags, the middle has a veteran's name plate attached to it and the bottom section fits into the ground sleeve. The cost of each pole is $150.00, which includes the pole, name plate, the ground sleeve and cement. If the veteran's family does not wish to use the casket flag, there is an additional cost of $75 for the 5x9 flag. For the name plate we need the following information: veteran's name, branch of service, which war. In addition we will need the next of kin, wife, daughter, son or grandchildren, their address and phone number. The families own the flags, we merely store them and put them up on behalf of the families. At any time, the family may come and take their pole and flag.
