October 12 is Indigenous Peoples’ Day. ❤️

And today is about more than remembering history.

It’s about teaching our children that no culture is less important. No voice is less deserving of being heard. And no child should ever feel ashamed of where they come from.

It’s about raising kids who are curious instead of judgmental.

Who celebrate differences instead of making fun of them.

Who understand that someone’s language, traditions, skin color, or heritage should never determine how they’re treated.

And it’s about honoring Indigenous peoples not just for their history, but for their cultures, communities, and contributions that continue today.

Because our children aren’t born knowing how to hate someone for being different.

Let’s teach them something better.

Let’s raise a generation that doesn’t just tolerate differences.

Let’s raise one that respects them. ❤️

The Administration is accepting public comments on proposed changes that could weaken the standards that help keep children safe, support families and make Head Start and Early Head Start work.

We’ve provided a pre-written comment to get you started. Be sure to personalize it with at least 1–2 sentences about what Head Start or Early Head Start means to your family or community so your comment is individually counted.

Kindergarten is where kids learn how to be in school. How to share the blocks, how to take turns, how to make a friend and how to fix it when things go wrong.

Those things still matter more than almost anything else we teach at five. And the best way I know to see where a child really is, is to watch them play. You learn so much from how they build, what they say to a friend and how they handle it when the tower falls.

Long tests on a screen ask little kids to sit still and click when they should be moving, talking and exploring. I'd trade every one of those minutes for more time in the block corner.

Some fantastic, simple ideas here for building those little hand muscles.
Activities like these make such a difference in preparing children for early writing while still keeping it fun and engaging. Love how easy they are to set up with everyday day items too.

Federal regulations for Head Start could soon be a thing of the past under a recent proposal from Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

A new report suggests early childhood workers are largely opposed to the idea, and many could walk away if it happens.

Since 1995, Early Head Start has been an essential part of the Head Start program, providing comprehensive services to meet the needs of nearly 250,000 babies, toddlers, and their parents every year, including pregnant women.

Early Head Start programs actively encourage and support parental involvement in a child’s learning and development. Programs connect families with other community resources, including prenatal and other medical care, dental care, postpartum education and home visits.

The proposed rollback runs counter to decades of evidence showing that strong performance standards improve quality and outcomes for children and families. Among the changes, the rule would eliminate many requirements for prenatal and postpartum services in Early Head Start, and critical mental health supports for children and families. Babies and their families can’t afford weaker Head Start standards.
