This morning we recognized this months Students of the month from Gardiner Area High School. This is a favorite of all Rotarians and when you read their nominations, it’s easy to see why.
October 2026 SOM
GRADE 9-Nora Montgomery-Mr. Harris-Although she is very quiet and I only have her in Advisory, Nora is always cheerful, prepared for school and plays games on Fridays during Advisory period. Her grades are exceptional, so I'm assuming she is a similar rockstar in her classes. She also always has a new book every other day that she is reading. Mrs. Gero - I echo this. She is a fantastic JMG student. Always speaks up, participates, and has great ideas and insights. Mrs. Gingras - I agree! Nora is a top notch Honors English student. She is a member of the soccer team. She has challenged herself with a schedule full of honors classes and her lowest grade currently is 100.
GRADE 10-Haylee Woodcock-Mrs. Wheelock-Since the beginning of the school year, I have gotten to know Haylee Woodcock well through her two honors privileges periods in the library. Her challenging schedule, which includes an AP history class as a sophomore, reflects both her motivation and her ability to manage a demanding workload. Haylee is a wonderful example of the kindness and respect we value in our school. She is consistently polite, stays on task in the library, and brings a positive presence to the space. Her quiet, dependable approach deserves recognition, and we would be lucky to have more students like her. She is truly deserving of being named Student of the Month! Mrs.
Creamer - Haylee is a teacher's dream! She is very conscientious and tries her best each class. Haylee is pulling high grades and also has been a member of the track and field team.
GRADE 11-Wyatt Parkin-Ms. Bischof-Wyatt has been a steady presence in Advisory for the last 3 years. He is always willing to do any odd task that I have going on and I believe is the reason for the Junior Class winning the candy collection drive for Trunk or Treat. Academically, he takes on any challenge and is a student who wants to understand the content rather than just get a good grade, which is apparent through any school work he has done for me. He always always always lends a hand to any student in advisory that is struggling with any subject and has little mini lessons on the board quite frequently. Mrs.
Boudreau: YES! Definitely Wyatt. He's one of the most kind kids I've taught over the past (forever) years. Any task he is given in Personal Finance, he does it with absolute top notch work. He works hard and truly wants to know the reasoning/the why behind all of the concepts we work on. Anytime a classmate is struggling, he is the one that goes above and beyond to help them. Wyatt is enrolled in AP and Honor level classes and is earning exceptional grades.
GRADE 12-lzzy Boudreau-Mrs. Peaslee-l have watched Izzy grow over the past few years as her "neighbor" during advisory period. She quietly works hard to better herself as an athlete and as a student. Izzy has not let any obstacle that has crossed her path hold her back from her goals and has succeeded in them.
On top of being an athlete and a student, she works with the little kids over at the Boys and Girls Club, has an internship, and goes over to L.E.R. to work with the littles as well. She does this to prepare for the goals she has set for herself after graduation. Izzy has been a peer support this semester in the Unified Social Studies class, as well as last semester. She is also taking a dual enrollment English class this year, going above and beyond what is required. Izzy is a kind person to both students and teachers. Also, I don't know how many times she has let me into the building in the morning when I have forgotten my keys. Ms.
Bischof: Izzy is INCREDIBLE in Unified Social Studies! She took the class last semester as well and has formed really fun relationships with all the students in the class. It is so clear that she cares about her own school work, her peer relationships, and her personal growth. Izzy is a member of the soccer team, indoor and outdoor track and field teams, has completed 98 hours of community service, and is an honor roll student.
Cindy Malcolm shared an old newspaper article she recently found at the library regarding member David Mealy’s son’s experience on a high school trip to Japan. It was a fun trip down memory lane!
In addition to the Students, we were joined by Fred & Diane Thompson, along with Rotarian Deb Couture who spoke about Wreaths Across America an event taking place this year locally on Saturday, December 19, 2026. The Wreaths Across America Program was started by the Worcester Wreath Company in Columbia Falls, Maine in 1992 with five thousand wreaths being placed in one section of Arlington National Cemetery.
