For a long time, I thought belonging meant learning how to fit in.
Read the room. Adjust. Blend. Be whatever version of me made the most sense in that space.
And it was exhausting.
What I know now is that real belonging doesn’t ask you to abandon pieces of yourself just to stay.
That’s what felt so special about this night.
I looked around and realized I wasn’t trying to fit in anymore.
I already belonged.
I was surrounded by people who accept me exactly as I am. I don’t have to make myself smaller. Less ambitious. Less loud. Less emotional. Less excited. Less me.
I get to show up as my whole self.
And maybe that’s part of what healing has looked like for me — not becoming easier for everyone else to accept, but building a life where I’m surrounded by people who make it easier for me to be fully myself.
A huge thank you to Veronica Jones and Innovative Heart for opening your doors and giving the Every Body Deserves Love Inc. community a place to land, create, laugh, connect, and just BE. You didn’t just give us a space for an event. You helped us create a space for belonging. 🤍
And while we were doing all that painting and connecting, we were also raising money for EBDL Leadership Program — supporting the next generation of EBDL work, research, education, and community impact.
That part means so much to me.
Because this is the kind of community I want EBDL to keep creating.
People supporting people.
Businesses supporting community.
Community investing back into the work.
All of us making a little more room for each other.
I wanted to build a place where other people could belong.
I didn’t realize how much I needed that place, too. 🤍
