Fred Bowannie: Wonder Stone, Mountain Lion

The use of wonder stone lends an air of mystique and enchantment to the piece, as if it were hewn directly from the depths of some ancient, hidden quarry. And the inclusion of Penn shell for its eyes adds a touch of realism and depth to this already lifelike portrayal. This carved mountain lion is not merely a work of art; it is a testament to the wild beauty and untamed spirit that dwells within us all, waiting to be unveiled by those brave enough to seek it out.

Mountain lion (Hokdidasha): is at the top of the food chain and is regarded to be a great hunter and leader. Mountain lion’s presence is usually felt but not seen. Mountain Lion medicine is about setting good examples and boundaries.

Alex Tsethlikai: Serpentine, Green Mole

A beautifully detailed mole carved from rich green serpentine, showcasing the stone’s natural shades of deep and light green with subtle variations throughout. Its vivid turquoise eyes create a striking contrast against the serpentine, giving the mole a lively and expressive character. The carefully carved body captures the mole’s small, sturdy form and distinctive features, making this a charming piece that highlights the natural beauty of the stone and the skill of the carver.

Mole (K'yaluts'i): Mole’s behavior suggests that we trust what we feel, not what we see as the mole lives this way all the time. For the Zuni people, Mole (K'yaluts'i) is the guardian of Mother Earth.

Eagle (K'yak'yali): meaning is that of extraordinary vision, of seeing the whole picture. Even though Eagle can see the smallest of details from a great distance, it maintains a comprehensive view. Eagle helps us to remember that one’s journey is spiritual as well as physical.

Randy Lucio: Picasso Marble, Double Eagles

Both eagles are carved from grey and brown Picasso marble, a richly patterned stone whose natural striations swirl like brushstrokes across their bodies. Shades of cool grey, warm brown, and soft charcoal flow through the marble, evoking the rugged mountains and windswept skies where eagles soar. The eagles are positioned front to front, their chests nearly touching, wings gently wrapped toward one another in a pose that feels protective—not aggressive, but reverent. Their powerful heads are slightly bowed inward, beaks close, as if in quiet communication or mutual respect. The carving captures a rare stillness in such majestic creatures, suggesting connection, loyalty, or even a spiritual bond. Each eagle has small, inlaid black eyes, polished and gleaming. The darkness of the eyes gives them intensity and depth—sharp, focused, and aware. Though understated, these black eyes stand out against the complex marbling of the stone, grounding each eagle with a sense of purpose and soul.

Kateri Q. Sanchez: Spiny Oyster, Maiden Pendant

As one gazes upon this pendant, one cannot help but feel a sense of reverence and awe for the sacred symbolism it carries. The striking contrast between the vibrant red-orange hues of the spiny oyster and the iridescent sheen of the mother of pearl face adds to its dramatic allure, drawing in admirers like moths to a flame. Corn Maiden (A:dow e:washdok'i): In the Zuni Pueblo the three stages of woman are recognized as:

Maiden, symbolizing potential
Mother, the life giver
Grandmother, the wise elder
Usually the maiden fe**sh will be emerging from corn (the corn maiden) or she will have whorls of hair on the side of her head, signifying that she has not had a child. The mother fe**sh also can be emerging from the corn (the corn mother) and she will have children with her or look pregnant. The grandmother usually has a shawl over her head and no corn represented on her body.
