We are excited to announce the rescheduled date for our Indigenous Milk Medicine 5K Run & Community Walk!

Event Date: Wednesday, August 19, 2026
Location: Window Rock Cinema Parking Lot | Window Rock, AZ

Theme: Keeping the Fires Lit: Rising Through Milk Medicine

Join us for an evening of movement, community, and celebration of Navajo Breastfeeding Month and the closing of Indigenous Milk Medicine Week!

✨Event Schedule:
• Event Setup: 4:00 PM MDT
• On-Site Participant Registration: 5:30 PM MDT
• Health Fair Begins: 5:30 PM MDT
• 5K Run & Walk: 6:00 PM MDT
• Family Walk: Approximately 1-mile accessible route

We will also have a Special Proclamation Presentation by Navajo Nation President Dr. Buu Nygren and First Lady Jasmine Blackwater-Nygren as they reaffirm their commitment to supporting breastfeeding families and celebrating Navajo Breastfeeding Month.

Please dress appropriately for the weather and come prepared for changing outdoor conditions.

This is a family-friendly, drug- and alcohol-free event. Political campaigning will not be permitted.

Indigenous Milk Medicine Week was created in 2019 by the Indigenous Milk Medicine Collective and is celebrated annually from August 8-14. Formerly known as Native Breastfeeding Week, the observance was created to encourage and uplift the diversity of Native breast/chestfeeding experiences. Help us celebrate August 8-14! We warmly invite you to a special gathering in celebration of Indigenous Milk Medicine Week. This heartfelt event honors the strength and wisdom of indigenous families and aims to uplift our community through shared learning and support.

Nourshing the Future Generations with Support is made possible by the generous sponsorship of the Navajo Birthworker Collective. This day will feature an inspiring presentation with the Cihuapatli Collective, focusing on babywearing and how it supports bodyfeeding. IBCLC, Daili Lister, will bring us together, as we explore bodyfeeding practices, share experiences, and discuss ways to nurture/support our families.

Join us for a supportive discussion, receive valuable resources, and enjoy a light breakfast and lunch alongside friends and relatives. Attendees will also have the chance to participate in exciting giveaways.

This year, we will explore why data equity matters for AANHPI families by examining the current maternal and child health data landscape, highlighting California statewide efforts to improve data collection and representation, and uplifting community perspectives on what better data should look like.

Join us for a two-hour webinar on data equity and breastfeeding among AANHPI families. During the first section, we will be discussing why data equity matters and current approaches to addressing gaps. The second section will feature community voices discussing community strengths and challenges, how to support families, and how to work respectfully with communities.
