Quiet and quick, lizards are a creature that can easily escape danger, and some even do so by leaving their tail behind if necessary. This process, known as caudal autotomy, usually results in the tail being grown back over time. Lizard (Misho) teaches us the importance of frequently rejuvenating ourselves, taking the time to access our own needs so that we may function properly. The ability to lose an appendage can also be a lesson in learning to let go of something – be it a situation, a someone, or a part of ourselves – in order to grow and move forward. Starting anew is often a scary and daunting task, especially if loss is involved, but these amazing reptiles have the ability to teach us how to rebuild if we listen to their lessons.

Perched on their rock and on the look out for danger, the marble lizard pictured above was carved by Scotty Garnaat. 2 ⅜” tall, 1 ½” wide, and ¾” deep. $60.
