If you have been following us for a while, you know we are not all about puppies and young foofoo dogs. Introducing Drew Barrymore a.k.a. hot mess lol
Meet Drew Barrymore, our newest tiny senior chi, who despite being lost and finding herself at the Cumberland County Shelter, is now getting long overdue medical attention. After an evaluation at one of our vet partners’, it’s clear she’s endured hardships, likely used for breeding, and her ears and skin bear testament to neglect. Thankfully, despite her inoperable ear condition, she’s free from pain. Though her tail may be forever changed and her vision impaired, her 6 pound spirit shines through. As we get to know this little girl better, we’re happy to have her at the old geezer farm until her home comes along. One of Drews conditions is untreated ear hematomas. Also known as Cauliflower ears. Its when a dog has an ear hematoma years ago and it wasn't drained or surgically repaired, the body reabsorbed the blood but left behind thick scar tissue. Over time, this thick scar tissue contracts, permanently deforming and wrinkling the ear cartilage. She is a happy dog and does not appear to be in pain from this. Drew has most likely had this for a long time.
