Five years ago, most people had never heard the term care farming. Today, more than 400 farms across the country are connected through the Care Farming Network, and we’re building toward a future with a care farm in every county.

This one-hour “Deep Dive” features Simple Sparrow Care Farm, a trauma-informed care farm based in Hutto, Texas.

What began as founder Jamie Tanner’s hobby farm in 2013 has grown into a 501(c)3 nonprofit serving veterans, foster and adoption families, survivors of trafficking, and people of all ages and backgrounds — teaching them to care for land, gardens, and animals so they’re better equipped to care for themselves and others.

Jamie, now Board President of Simple Sparrow, will share their origin story, how they operate day-to-day, what’s working, and what’s hard — followed by 15 minutes of open Q&A.

This month we've shown you what the Care Farming Network makes possible: a mentorship pilot pairing new care farmers with experienced ones, a national conference where hundreds gathered and told us they'd never felt that much support in one room, consultations connecting farms to the help they need, and a resource library and webinar series building knowledge across the network.

None of it happens without people who believe in this work enough to fund it.

We've raised $5,175 toward our $10,000 match goal, with $4,825 left to go. If we hit $10,000, every dollar given is matched, doubling the impact of this campaign.

Care Farming Network published an in-depth Farm Case Study featuring GAAMHA, Inc.! It includes the recording of our virtual Deep Dive with GAAMHA.

Located in Gardner, MA, GAAMHA is a nonprofit behavioral health agency that integrates clinical care, housing, employment, transportation, and peer support to build a recovery ecosystem that fosters long-term wellness, independence, and recovery. This is a hands-on, come-with-your-questions kind of day: tour a working care farm, see their apple press and adaptive tools in action, and connect with people at every stage of the care farming journey. A light lunch will be provided.
