🚤 It's time for Boating Safety Tip #3!

Before you leave the dock, make sure your boat is stocked with the essential safety equipment you'll need on the water.

✅ Life Jackets (PFDs): One U.S. Coast Guard approved life jacket for every person on board, properly sized.
🔥 Fire Extinguisher: Did you know some expire 12 years after manufacturing? Check yours before your next trip!
📣 Sound-Producing Device: Carry a horn, whistle, or air horn to signal other boaters.
🛑 Engine Cutoff Switch: Wear your engine cutoff switch lanyard whenever you're operating the boat.
🚩 Visual Distress Signals: Keep signals on board in case of an emergency - for day or nighttime boating.
📱 Communication Device: Bring a fully charged cell phone or VHF marine radio so you can call for help if needed.

For more information specific to your vessel, check out the Required Equipment Checklist provided by Georgia DNR: https://gadnrle.org/required-equipment 🌊☀️

It's time for Boating Safety Tip #2! ⚓

Let's talk about fire extinguishers! 🧯🔥 Your fire extinguisher could be one of the most important pieces of safety equipment on your boat – but only if it's in good working condition.

Before your next trip on Lake Lanier, take a minute to check:
✅ The pressure gauge is in the green.
✅ The safety pin is secure.
✅ The nozzle is clear and free of obstructions.
✅ There are no signs of rust, corrosion, or damage.
✅ If it's a disposable fire extinguisher, make sure it's no more than 12 years old from the date of manufacture. For serviceable extinguishers, these may need to be replaced as well. Click the link below for more info.

A quick safety check today could make all the difference tomorrow. Visit boatus.org/fire-extinguishers/ to make sure your extinguisher is ready for any emergency. 🆘

LLA hosted its third member-exclusive Lunch and Learn of 2026! 📚 ✅

During the event, LLA members, sponsors, staff, and board members learned about charitable giving, tax considerations, strategic giving, and planning to meet lifetime financial goals.

A big thank you to Richard Cheek, LLA Member and Financial Advisor with Edward Jones, and Kellie Sellers, Senior Attorney at Ganek PC, for sharing their expertise and providing valuable insights. It was an informative discussion that left attendees better equipped to make important financial decisions.

Special thanks to Orangetheory Fitness Gainesville, GA for generously providing boxed lunches for everyone in attendance. Their support helped make this event a great success! 💙

We couldn't let this trend pass us by...

If you haven’t already, meet Bonny - the powerhouse behind Shore Sweep! Every year, she coordinates Lake Lanier's largest annual cleanup, bringing together more than 1,000 volunteers across 15 cleanup sites. From organizing heavy equipment and dumpsters to coordinating advance and on-lake cleanup sites, plus countless logistics, she makes it all happen.

If Shore Sweep ever got a Netflix documentary, Bonny would definitely have the best behind the scenes stories. Give our Trash Queen a well deserved round of applause in the comments! 👏💙
