Parents For Public Education

Parents For Public Education Our mission is to educate and empower Texans to support public education.

This is who Parents for Public Education is and why it matters.

Our core values are built on one simple belief: strong teachers build strong schools. But simple does not mean easy. It takes advocates, donors, and a community willing to show up for the people educating their kids.

This is what that looks like.

Props to Fort Worth ISD, Brownsville ISD, Early ISD, and Farmersville ISD for leading the charge!

Let me know if your district in Texas has some kind of paid maternity leave or reduced paid leave option for you when you go out on leave for the birth, adoption, or placement of a foster child.

This is an open call for districts across Texas!! Pass some kind of solution to this before next school year. Some options are fully paid days off like Fort Worth or Brownsville or a reduction in pay equal to the sub rate like Farmersville and Early ISD.

👏PAID MATERNITY LEAVE👏FOR EDUCATORS 👏 IS 👏 NOT 👏 CONTROVERSIAL 👏

76% of teachers in Texas are women. Nearly half of all teachers leave within the first 5 years of teaching to go to other professions. Hmm, what are teachers doing within the first five years?

These states have started solving this problem by providing some kind of paid maternity leave for public school educators:

1. Alabama
2. Arkansas
3. Delaware
4. Georgia
5. Maine
6. Maryland
7. Minnesota
8. New Jersey
9. North Carolina
10. Oklahoma
11. Oregon
12. South Carolina
13. Tennessee
14. Utah
15. Washington
16. District of Columbia (DC)

Let’s stop making excuses and get it done.

Until paid maternity leave for educators becomes law, donate to us while we solve this problem ourselves by paying educators directly while they’re out on unpaid leave with the babies they’ve birthed, fostered, or adopted.

If you truly value public education and teachers (76% of whom are women), you will support this policy and our nonprofit’s work. There is nothing but goodness to be had here.

Join us in celebrating babies, public educators, and women. It’s super fun.

Here is exactly where your donation to Parents for Public Education goes.

Every dollar goes directly to teachers, not overhead. Specifically, to teachers facing unpaid medical or maternity leave who need real financial support to stay in the profession they love.

Strong teachers build strong schools. This is how you back that belief with action.

Friendswood ISD: the bond for Westwood Elementary did not pass. That is a hard loss.

The teachers who show up every day are feeling it. They need to know their community still has their back while long-term solutions get figured out.

Becoming a donor to Parents for Public Education is how you show them that right now. The link is in the bio.
