💛 A note from our first Friendswood maternity leave applicant this school year, Mrs. Williams at Windsong 💛
“Hi! I’m Mrs. Williams, and I teach 2nd grade at Windsong. I have 3 beautiful girls and have been married for 10 years. We welcomed our youngest at the end of July, and unfortunately, right before school started, I had some health issues due to physical postpartum complications.
I was in immense pain daily while still at home caring for my newborn. I am currently in recovery and hope to go back to work healed. Kelly with Parents for Public Education was able to wrap around me and provide support for me while going through the valley.
A care package was dropped off with so many wonderful items to help encourage me during my postpartum healing process, and they are also working to raise funds to give back to my family the money that I cannot earn during this time.
I went into teaching after being a stay-at-home mom because I felt called, but also because I missed being a part of the community. Teaching is a way for me to serve the community of Friendswood that I grew up in and also still call home.
What I didn’t expect was for the community to, in turn, love on and serve me at a time when I really needed it.
My husband runs a nonprofit in Galveston, so I know the hard work that Kelly and her team at Parents for Public Education put in to serve the teachers and staff in our school district. I also know what it means to run on the generosity and kindness of community members to help fund this need. My husband always says, “Community-sized problems need community-sized solutions.”
Your generosity would mean so much to my family and me at a time when I could not have worked physically due to health issues, while also giving me the gift of time with my newborn while nursing. I was incredibly relieved when Kelly reached out to see how she could help provide support for me financially while on maternity leave. This organization gives teachers peace, time to heal, breathing room, hope, and support.
Teachers don’t get paid while on leave, so when you donate, you are helping to give those gifts to bless teachers and their families. Your blessing would mean that I could stay at home, care for my newborn, and heal so that I could get back to doing what I love: serving the students and families in the community I love.
