Adams County Humane Society, despite our name, is a non-profit, privately run animal shelter. Financially, ACHS runs entirely on donations, adoptions, events and fundraisers. We help the people and animals in our community by taking in and caring for cats and dogs who are strays or owner surrenders. We are open 7 days a week and you are always welcome to come any day of the week from 10-3 to view animals for adoption.

We truly have NO IDEA why this precious girl hasn't been adopted yet. ❤️

Meet Brie! She is just over 1 year old, weighs approximately 30 pounds, and is one of the sweetest dogs you'll ever meet. Brie LOVES every dog she meets and thinks every human is her new best friend. She even lived in a foster home with young children and did wonderfully!

Unfortunately, Brie's foster family is away for almost three weeks, which means Brie had to return to the shelter. After getting a taste of home life again, she's struggling to understand why she's back in a kennel. It's heartbreaking to see.

Brie deserves a family of her own—a comfy couch, daily adventures, and people to love her forever.

Meet Miss Ginger! 🧡

Ginger is 3 years old and weighs approximately 27 pounds—making her the perfect medium-sized companion! She may be a little shy when you first meet her, but some tasty treats (hotdogs) will help win her over.

While at the shelter, Ginger had a special canine friend to spend her days with. That lucky pup found a forever home today, and now Ginger is patiently waiting for her turn. We keep telling her it's only a matter of time before the right family comes along and falls in love with her sweet personality.

Ginger would most likely thrive in a quieter home where she can settle in at her own pace and build confidence. Once she feels comfortable, her sweet nature really begins to shine.

From spending the first three years of his life in a metal cage at a breeding/testing facility to lounging on couches, exploring the outdoors, and listening to the birds sing, Axel is finally learning how to be a dog. ❤️🐾

Every day brings something new—soft beds, kind people, fresh grass beneath his paws, and the freedom to simply enjoy life. Watching him discover the world around him is a beautiful reminder of the impact a second chance can have.

We know Axel still has a long road to recovery from everything he endured, but we have no doubt that with the love, patience, and dedication of his adopter, he'll get there. ❤️🐾

Another Great Vaccination Clinic!

We had another fantastic turnout at our vaccination clinic on June 6th! We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended. Your support means so much to us, and we're proud to provide this important service to our community and their pets.

It was wonderful seeing so many dedicated pet parents and their furry family members. Thank you for helping make this event such a success!

If you weren't able to make it this time, don't worry—our next vaccination clinic will be August 15th from 1:30–3:30 PM.

Molly, Nott, Jester, Fjord, Clay, and Caleb are almost 3 months old and ready to find their forever families. These six adorable kittens are full of personality, playfulness, and cuddles—and once you meet them, you'll see why everyone falls in love with kittens so quickly!

And remember, kittens are a lot like potato chips... it's hard to stop at just one. 😸
