South Whidbey at Home

South Whidbey at Home South Whidbey at Home is a membership-based nonprofit helping older South Whidbey residents remain in their homes & active in the community they love!

We provide volunteer assistance, empowering educational opportunities, & social activities. Members of SW@Home are age 55 and older and for a reasonable annual fee have access to volunteer services, a resource list, and social activities. Supporters are any age and can use the list of and are invited to all social activities, but receive no volunteer help. Volunteers are any age as well, and will

help members with small home and garden chores, errands, rides, daily check-ins or weekly visits, help with pets or technology, or whatever the volunteer wants to offer. Membership in SW@Home is $240/household. There is no additional charge at this time for a second member from the same household as we attempt to keep our membership affordable to all. Donations to keep our program serving Seniors living on South Whidbey are always welcome, and much needed. Our program is up and running for over 4 years now, since July 2016.

Thank you so much to Whidbey Community Foundation for their invaluable support! Because of their grants we have been able to build capacity with a technology upgrade. Our new website is almost complete! We've also been able to launch our amazing SEAR program (Seniors Empowered and Resourceful) to help bridge some of the gaps in resources for our members!

We recently visited South Whidbey at Home to learn more about how their work is evolving to meet the needs of older adults in our community. As a member-driven organization, South Whidbey at Home helps residents age in place with dignity. They offer practical support, social connection, and access to trusted resources that make it possible to remain safely and independently at home.

Our conversation highlighted a reality that is both simple and complex: many people move to Whidbey Island to retire, drawn by its beauty and pace of life. Yet the rural nature of the island can also bring isolation, and the infrastructure to support aging in place is still developing.

Two recent grants from Whidbey Community Foundation—made possible through the generosity of donors who invest in the Foundation Fund—are helping South Whidbey at Home respond to this need, strengthening both their internal capacity and their direct service to members.

This is a great opinion piece in Seattle Times. We have a lot of "solo agers" on South Whidbey. South Whidbey at Home just started a Solo Agers group for members who live alone. They created a buddy system!

Give our office a call 360-331-1971 or email [email protected] if you'd like more information about our solo agers group.

it would be in the best interest of everyone who lives alone to develop an agreement with someone they can check in with every day, no matter what.

Lovely article!

Today and tomorrow you can double your impact when you give through GiveBIG! Windermere is matching the first $3000 in gifts. GiveBIG is a state wide day of generosity, it's also the perfect time to reflect on the impact we create together right here on South Whidbey. We're flipping the narrative from fierce independence to fierce interdependence - neighbors helping neighbors age in place and stay in the homes and community they love! https://mtyc.co/aztu3g
