Sometimes what you need most is a few days away. Not a vacation. Not a break where you're still managing everything from a distance. A real pause — surrounded by people who understand exactly what you're carrying, because they're carrying it too.

That's what WSA's respite weekends are.

A few days with other well spouses. People who don't need you to explain yourself. People who already know what it looks like to love someone through a chronic illness and still need to come up for air.
You don't have to hold it together for a weekend. You don't have to be the strong one. You just have to show up.

If you've never been to a WSA respite weekend — or if it's been a while — we'd love to see you at the next one.

Find out more at wellspouse.org or message us here and we'll get you the details.

And if you can't make a respite weekend just yet — we have something coming up that you can attend from wherever you are.

On June 18, WSA is hosting an online event with Charlotte Bayala, caregiver advocate and host of The Cancer Caregiver Podcast. The topic is connection — the loneliness of spousal caregiving and how to find your way back to yourself in the middle of it.

One hour. Zoom. Free to members and first time attendees. Registration coming soon!
Stay tuned for more info.

You can be married and lonelier than you've ever been in your life.

Not because something is wrong with you.

Not because your marriage has failed.

Because the person you married — the one who was supposed to be your partner, your confidant, the one who had your back — is now the person you are caring for.

And there is no map for that.

The Well Spouse Association has been a community for spousal caregivers since 1988. People who understand this from the inside — because they're living it too.

The hardest part of being a well spouse is feeling like no one around you truly gets it.

WSA's peer support groups are run by and for people who do get it — because they are well spouses themselves. There are no professionals moderating these groups. No clinical frameworks. Just people in the same situation, being honest with each other about what it's actually like and looking for connections.

We have 25+ groups that meet monthly — by phone, online, and in-person where available. You do not need to be a WSA member to attend your first meeting. Just show up to try it and then decide.

As costs rise faster than household incomes, many families must deplete savings, rely on unpaid family caregivers, or go without needed care.

WASHINGTON — Home care and assisted living costs have surged nearly 50 percent since 2019, wiping out a decade of progress in long-term care affordability for middle-income older adults, AARP’s new report finds. Additionally, findings show that affordability varies dramatically across states. Ol...
