Our staff and volunteers dressed in pink Wednesday in recognition of October's Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Every day at Mustard Seed, we see how health challenges can affect individuals and families, sometimes creating financial hardships and a need for additional support.

That's why we're encouraging people to talk with their health care providers about breast cancer screenings and the importance of early detection.

We hope you'll share this reminder with the people you care about.

On Saturday, Mustard Seed Ministries welcomed young volunteers from Lighthouse for the Blind of the Palm Beaches Youth Program!

These fabulous kids assembled utensil sets to accompany hot meals our Sarah’s Kitchen volunteers prepared and delivered to three Fort Pierce locations where neighbors experiencing homelessness gather.

Every act of service matters, and these young people made a difference! Thank you for sharing your time and caring hearts with our community.

Two leaders of The Community Foundation Martin - St. Lucie, which is a strong financial supporter of Mustard Seed, visited our Fort Pierce food pantry yesterday for a firsthand look at our operations.

Foundation board Vice Chair Bunny Webb, and President and CEO Elizabeth Barbella toured the facility with Mustard Seed CEO Stephanie Kingsbury, seeing firsthand how our Fort Pierce food pantry operates.

We appreciate the Foundation's generous support and its genuine interest in what we do. The tour highlighted the scale of our operations and the work involved in serving many thousands of people throughout St. Lucie County.

Thank you both for taking the time to visit, asking thoughtful questions and sharing in a conversation about our community's needs.

When we asked for help restocking our food pantries, the Kitterman Woods Apartments community responded with a trunk full of groceries. Thank you KWA!

But we still need food, so churches, businesses, schools, HOAs and other groups can help by organizing a food drive of their own.

Our most-needed items include pasta and sauce, peanut butter and jelly, cereal, canned vegetables, rice, dried beans, and canned tuna or chicken. Other nonperishables are welcome, too.

Drop donations at our Fort Pierce or PSL location, or contact us about pickup for larger food drives. Financial gifts can also be made at www.mustardseedslc.org.

October is here, with another month of great finds at the Mustard Seed Thrift Stores!

Take a look at our October sales calendar, then stop by to see what you might find. There are plenty of ways to save throughout the month at both of our thrift stores.

And a little advance notice: our big yard sale returns Nov. 14, with 75% off outside and 50% off inside at both locations.

Two members of the Mustard Seed team recently attended a presentation by the Children's Services Council of St. Lucie County, where CEO Sean Boyle shared data showing the reach and results of the CSC's work on behalf of children and families over many years.

The numbers told quite a story. Their work has meaningfully impacted and improved the lives of thousands, yet many people may not be familiar with the CSC.

Mustard Seed works with the CSC whenever possible to suport their efforts. The presentation gave us a broader look at the importance of the CSC and the many organizations involved in helping children and families throughout our community.

Thank you Children’s Services Council for sharing the story behind the numbers — and for the work you do for St. Lucie County's children. We look forward to continuing our work together.

FPUA brought some extra energy to Mustard Seed recently. ⚡

Fort Pierce Utilities Authority collected groceries for distribution through our two Mustard Seed food pantries.

Thank you FPUA employees for caring about your community! These donations will support families facing food insecurity.

Today, a group of 22 residents from the Del Webb at Tradition community came to Mustard Seed to pack groceries, prepare flatware and supplies, and tackle just about every job we had waiting for them.

By the time they were finished, so was our list.

The volunteers are part of a faith-based group within Del Webb at Tradition, a 55+ community in Port St. Lucie. We appreciate them giving us their time and getting so much accomplished in one visit.

Thank you to our friends from Del Webb Tradition!

Thursday, local Bank of America employees started their day as volunteers at one of our Sarah's Kitchens, cooking and preparing hot meals. Then the team went onto the streets of Fort Pierce and helped distribute what they had prepared: eggs, sausage, tortillas and fresh-baked muffins.

From the back of our Mustard Seed truck, they handed out hot meals and other food at three locations to crowds that gather every week in need of assistance. Some of the people served are experiencing homelessness. Others simply needed some help with food that day.

And we don't need to know everyone's story to offer them a meal.

We did learn one thing, though: The fresh-baked muffins were a hit.

Thank you to the Bank of America volunteers for spending the day with Sarah's Kitchens, from preparing the food to putting it directly into people's hands.
