🏰 Volunteering at Stronghold is about so much more than stocking shelves.

Every interaction we have with a military family is rooted in dignity, trust, and respect. The work we do is meaningful, sensitive, and often takes place during some of the most difficult seasons in a family’s life — and because of that, it matters deeply who carries this mission forward and how they do it.

As a national nonprofit serving military communities across the country, our team is managing summer programming, travel, and commitments in multiple locations this season. With those responsibilities — and yes, a little summer vacation mixed in 🌞 — we’re offering two Volunteer Orientation opportunities this summer for those ready to serve at our Fort Leavenworth headquarters:

📅 June Orientation: 6/16 @ 1pm
📅 July Orientation: 7/9 @ 1pm
📍 655 Biddle Blvd, Armed Forces Insurance Building

Orientation is required for all new volunteers — and that’s intentional.
Stronghold is not a “pop in and volunteer” organization. We hold our culture, our standards, and our commitment to military families closely. Orientation is where we share not just the work we do, but the heart behind it — why dignity matters, why confidentiality matters, and why every family who walks through our doors deserves to be met with compassion and without judgment.

We are looking for volunteers who believe that service is more than completing a task — it is about strengthening a community.

PCS season is here. 📦

For many military families, a move means more than packing boxes and changing addresses. It can mean unexpected expenses, delayed reimbursements, empty refrigerators, and trying to create stability in a brand-new community.

If you’re new to our community, welcome!

Stronghold exists to ensure military families don’t have to navigate those challenges alone.

💙 Our support goes beyond pantry staples. Families can access fresh food, produce, dairy, meat, hygiene products, feminine care items, diapers, pull-ups, baby wellness supplies, household essentials (available at Fort Leavenworth), and other resources designed to support the whole family.

Most importantly, we believe assistance should be offered with dignity, without barriers, and free from stigma.

📍 As an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Stronghold is not part of any chain of command or Department of War. Families can seek support knowing their privacy is respected and their circumstances remain confidential.

This model was built intentionally — because no military family should hesitate to ask for help out of fear of judgment, embarrassment, or concern about professional repercussions.

There are people who just do the hard. Monica is that person for us — and this week, that work was recognized.

We are so proud to share that our Founder and CEO, Monica Bassett, has been named a 2026 Influential Woman.

This recognition is well deserved — not because of a title or a milestone, but because of the way Monica shows up every single day. The early mornings. The hard conversations. The families she carries with her long after the delivery is made.

She started Stronghold with a conviction that military families deserved better. And she has never once let go of that.

To Monica — thank you for your heart, your grit, and for showing all of us what it looks like to lead with both. We are honored to stand beside you.

📣 We have some news we’re excited to share.

Stronghold Food Pantry was awarded two grants last week — and honestly, we’re still a little in awe!

The Fort Leavenworth Thrift Store has continued to believe in our mission three years in a row, awarding us $2,000 to keep our Hunger Buster Packs within reach of military kiddos needing support. These packs exist because military kids shouldn’t have to wonder what’s for dinner on the weekends or summer break. Simple as that.

The Fort Leavenworth Spouses’ Club awarded us $1,000 to restock our youth feminine hygiene kits, period starter kits, and help launch our brand-new Baby Wellness Closet — because our community has taught us that support doesn’t stop at the pantry shelf, and year-round baby wellness matters just as much as a full fridge.

We are humbled. We don’t take any of this for granted — not the grants, not the trust, not the relationships, not the families who walk through our doors.
