Miss Pauline: A Terrell Story Worth Remembering ✈

Some aviation stories begin in the cockpit. This one begins with a teacher.

During World War II, Pauline Taylor Bond Baxter taught British cadets to use the Link Trainer, a simulator that helped them learn to fly by instruments when visibility was poor.

Her connection to those young pilots lasted long after the war. Passionate about preserving the history she had helped shape, Pauline helped establish Number 1 British Flying Training School Museum - No. 1 BFTS so future generations could discover the cadets’ stories.

That legacy lives on through Miss Pauline, the static AT-6 display pictured below. Donations from the Baxter family helped the museum acquire the bits and parts needed to assemble it, becoming a tribute to Pauline’s dedication and a lasting connection to Terrell’s aviation heritage. Today, it invites visitors from near and far to explore the history that unfolded right here in our community.

That’s why we celebrate aviation in Terrell: behind every aircraft are people whose skill, dedication, and care made a difference. Pauline’s story is one we’re proud to remember.

Miss Pauline will be displayed at our Planes, Trains & Automobiles event on NOVEMBER 7th along with many other surprises from Number 1 British Flying Training School Museum - No. 1 BFTS will have for you. ✈️🏆😀

Gratitude is more than something we say. It is time we choose to give.

This November, Texas VFW is challenging every Post to give a Veteran at least 30 minutes of genuine connection.

No agenda. No recruiting pitch. No meeting business. Just time, attention, and conversation.

Prepare now to complete Challenge #3:

• Choose a Veteran, especially someone outside your normal circle
• Reach out with a call, text, visit, or knock on the door
• Spend at least 30 minutes together
• Listen and let the conversation go wherever it needs to go

Share coffee and donuts, host a pancake breakfast, go fishing, take a walk or ruck, go work out, or simply sit and talk. The activity does not need to be elaborate. What matters is making time for a fellow Veteran and showing through your actions that they are valued.

This November, give thanks by giving your time.
