We aren't normally ones to ask for help, but we could really use some extra prayers and some help right now!
Trigger warning!!(I will post pictures below - but BE WARNED - some of them are very hard to look at ππ
We did not post the gruesome one from after the vet removed the dead tissue - its stomach churning π)
One of our service dogs in training developed a swelling on the side of his face 2 weeks ago - it's fall & bees are out - we were assuming it was a sting.
We started him on benadryl and it went down and then would swell back up over night - fast forward to last week we took him to the vet because the swelling just kept getting worse and the whole left side of his poor face was completely swollen. He was started on steroids to help bring the inflammation down in conjuction with the antihistamines.
He went back to the vet Friday as he developed a hot spot from starting to scratch at his face. His face was lasered to help increase healing and antibiotics, trazadone, and gabapentin were added to his med regime to help with pain control and trying to keep him calm and as comfortable as we could.
Saturday morning our employee came in to a gorey mess - the swelling on his face had ruptured and was draining all over.
Fast forward to today, we were gently cleaning up his face and wound area with chlorhedixine scrub and upon further inspection decided to take him back into our vet 1st thing to have him sedated so more of his fur could be shaved back without putting him through any more unnecessary stress & to allow us the best opportunity to keep him clean and allow this to heal.
Once he was at our vet and sedated, they were able to get him shaved & clean up his wound and get a better look at things and the extent of this is quite substantial!
They could see his skull π
The vet figures it's very likely that of all of the skin that had originally swelled up on the side of his face will die off and need to be cut away.
Absolutely heart wrenching!
His face was lasered again, dead tissue was removed and some special medi-heal healing aid was applied to his wound to hopefully help us keep infection at bay. They bandaged up his face and he will be going back to the vet every 2 days for treatment, wound flushing, laser treatment and rebandiging.
Please pray for him!!
The costs of vet care are overwhelming and this will be a long road towards recovery for him.
He is the absolute sweetest boy and he deserves everything we can do to help get him healed!
We are a 501.c3 Non-profit organization and could really use the help of donations towards his medical care.
All donations are tax deductible and can be made on our website www.tailsforlife.org click the yellow "donate" tab
From all of us here at Tails for Life, thank you from the bottom of our hearts!!
