The City of Florence and Duke Energy, in partnership with Naturally Outdoors, Keep Florence Beautiful, and the South Carolina Forestry Commission, will host a Fall Tree Giveaway on October 15th from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on the back lawn of Naturally Outdoors, located at 2519 W. Palmetto Street.

🐝 There’s been a little “buzz” around Florence about bees, so let’s turn the conversation into a chance to learn!

Sweet drinks, and uncovered trash can attract bees and wasps looking for something to eat. If you’re noticing them around an outdoor counter, patio, or trash can, the sugary leftovers are part of the reason.

Not every yellow-and-black visitor is a bee! Yellowjackets and wasps are often mistaken for honeybees. Honey bees are fuzzy, while wasps usually have smoother bodies and narrow waists. Yellow jackets are a type of wasp often drawn to sweet drinks and food.

Bees help pollinate the plants that support our food, gardens, and wildlife. Wasps have a purpose, too—many help control other insects, and some also pollinate flowers. so knowing the difference matters! 🐝 🌼

There are plenty of positive ways to get a conversation buzzing—share a pollinator fact, highlight a native flower, or offer a tip for keeping outdoor spaces safe. A little understanding goes a long way! 🙏

A little visitor with a big job! 🌺 Hummingbirds are pollinators, helping flowers and plants thrive. If you spot one around your house, take a moment to enjoy it! 🌿

Have you had a lot of hummingbirds on your feeders this year?

"In the fall, leave your feeders up as long as the birds use them. Hummingbirds are migratory and travel south across the Gulf of Mexico and Central America when weather conditions are favorable in the winter. A rubythroated hummingbird can migrate 2,000 miles from breeding site to wintering grounds. Don’t worry about keeping hummingbirds here longer than they need to stay. They know when it is time to leave for their winter quarters. In the late summer or early fall, just before migration, a lot of hummingbirds may use the feeders and then disappear overnight."

A little recognition for a lot of community effort! 💚

We’re proud to share that Keep Florence Beautiful has received Keep America Beautiful’s 2026 President’s Circle Award! 🙌🏻

This reflects the work happening all year long within our community to reduce litter, support recycling, and make Florence a beautiful place to call home.

To our volunteers, community partners, and board members: thank you for showing up and making it happen. We’re glad to share this honor with you!



Keep America Beautiful, the nation’s leading community improvement nonprofit organization, has presented Keep Florence Beautiful (KFB) with its 2026 President’s Circle Award. The award recognizes exemplary performance by certified affiliates of Keep America Beautiful in creating clean, green, and beautiful communities.

KFB Chair Michelle Bailey said, “Once again it is a team effort that wins us this award . . . Without the community and a very active Board of Directors, this would not be possible. We at KFB are very pleased to be recognized by Keep America Beautiful.”

In qualifying for the President’s Circle Award, KFB has met standards of merit of Keep America Beautiful by conducting an annual Community Appearance Index; calculating the affiliate’s cost/benefit ratio; and administering initiatives to end littering, improve recycling, and beautify the community. KFB is one of nearly 800 community-based affiliates in the Keep America Beautiful network whose programs, initiatives, and efforts, supported by millions of volunteers, help transform public spaces into beautiful places.

About Keep Florence Beautiful – “KFB” is a 501(c)(3) organization based in Florence, South Carolina. Our mission is to engage individuals to take greater responsibility for improving Florence through the visual aspects of our community. We support Litter Prevention, Waste Reduction, Recycling, Beautification, and Community Greening. We identify the causes of litter and reduce it by organizing cleanups and programs that beautify and naturally clean our environment, these programs include community education for responsible consumerism; source reduction, reuse and recycling; community gardens; restoration of vacant lots; highway and shoreline beautification; urban forests, native and wildflower plantings; and graffiti prevention and abatement.

Big things are growing at John W. Moore Middle School! 🌱💚

Moore Middle received its first Green Step School award for its sensory garden project in the Restore category. They’re now on track to become a certified Green Step School this spring!

Congratulations to the entire Green Step team for creating a space that supports both students and the environment. We’re excited to see what you grow next!
