Training Day at the Fire Department

Today our members trained on the tools and equipment carried on Engine 36. Firefighters removed tools and equipment from the truck for hands-on training to become more familiar with their operation and locations on the apparatus.

Training included:

*Tool and equipment familiarization

*Deploying and climbing ladders

* Hooking up and operating extrication tools

*SCBA packs and changing air bottles

*Learning tool locations for quicker response times

* How to read a Thermal Imagining Camera (TIC)

Our department holds training after our monthly business meeting on the second Tuesday of each month, along with a dedicated training meeting on the 4th Sunday each month.

Continuous training helps keep our firefighters prepared to safely and effectively serve our community.

The Florala Fire Department would like to apologize for the recent drama and negativity that has taken place on social media. Our department’s mission has always been to serve and protect this community, and it is never our intention to create division or conflict.

We understand and respect concerns regarding privacy and HIPAA. The post in question did not contain any patient names, addresses, medical records, or identifying protected health information. Its purpose was simply to clarify dispatch and response procedures for the public. Florala Fire Department remains committed to protecting citizens’ privacy while also providing accurate and transparent information to the community.

At no time was anyone being singled out or “called out” when it was stated that services were declined. That statement was only included as part of the information provided during the review of the incident and was not intended to identify, embarrass, or offend anyone.

We kindly ask that everyone remember our firefighters are volunteers who dedicate their time to serving this community while also balancing full-time jobs and family responsibilities. We may not always be perfect, but we are committed to doing our best for the citizens of Florala.

Moving forward, we hope to focus on working together, supporting one another, and keeping our community safe.

This page will be used to share training opportunities, department calls, community events, and positive feedback regarding the Florala Fire Department. We encourage respectful engagement as we work together to support and strengthen our department and community.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support our department and the men and women who serve it.

Following a complaint regarding the response to a 911 call involving the Florala Fire Department and Florala Police Department, further investigation with the Covington County Command Center determined that neither agency was paged to the call. This was due to the information provided to the command center by the caller. However, EMS responded to the scene. It was also reported that the individual involved declined EMS services at that time.

If you ever have any questions or concerns regarding the Florala Fire Department, please feel free to reach out to me directly. My phone number is 334-208-7098 and I am almost always available by phone. If I am unable to answer, please leave a voicemail and I will return your call as soon as possible.
If you would like to arrange a meeting with me and any member of the council, that can also be coordinated. Please simply reach out and let me know so we can set up a time to meet.

For clarification, the Florala Fire Department’s SOPs and response protocols with EMS state that the fire department responds to calls involving CPR, difficulty breathing, and cardiac-related emergencies requiring an AED. These protocols are in place to help ensure the appropriate resources are dispatched based on the information provided to the emergency command center at the time of the call.

I will be addressing concerns and answering questions on June 8th at the council meeting if anyone would like to attend.

Thank you for your continued support of the Florala Volunteer Fire Dept.

On May 27, 2026, at approximately 4:35 PM, the Florala Fire Department responded to a medical call and remained on scene until Advanced EMS was able to return to the area and assume patient care.

We would like to thank Florala PD for their quick response and assistance. We would also like to thank Walton County Fire Rescue for their response. We appreciate the teamwork and support shown by all three agencies in serving our community.

Please use extra caution when traveling during heavy rain and flooding conditions. Never attempt to cross roads or bridges covered with water. It only takes a small amount of moving water to sweep a vehicle away, and the road underneath may be damaged or washed out without being visible. Stay safe!

Thank You to our friends at Florala Fire Dept for trusting PHI with air medical memberships for all Florala FD members!

Because of this commitment, every member of the department and their households are protected in the event air medical transport(s) are needed. Whether flown to Dothan, Mobile, Birmingham or otherwise, all bills are covered and the patient owes $0 with a membership. This is a commitment of just $65 per person, which ensures coverage for a year 🚁

If you're a local business, VFD, or group that is interested in providing this same benefit for your folks, contact us and we'll work through it 🔽
