Today, we recognize and celebrate the men and women who volunteer their time to protect their communities.

Being a volunteer firefighter means answering the call day or night, weekends, holidays, and in all kinds of weather. It means leaving your family, your job, or whatever you may be doing to help someone in their time of need.

At Florala Volunteer Fire Department, our members proudly give their time, training, and dedication to serve the citizens of Florala and the surrounding communities. We may not always know when the next call will come, but we will always do our best to be there when our community needs us.

To every volunteer firefighter across our nation: THANK YOU for your sacrifice, courage, and commitment to serving others.

Florala Fire Department is incredibly grateful to and for their generous support through the 2026 DripDrop Hydration Giveback Campaign!

Staying properly hydrated is essential for our firefighters, especially while working in the summer heat. This donation will help our members stay hydrated, healthy, and ready to serve our community when they are needed most.

The Florala Fire Department was happy to lend a helping hand getting the football stadium ready for the upcoming season! Our members spent some time washing down the stadium seats and helping get things cleaned up before the first game.

We are incredibly grateful to the National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) and Anheuser-Busch for selecting the Florala Volunteer Fire Department as a recipient of the 2026 Emergency Drinking Water for Wildland Firefighters Program.

Thanks to this generous program, our department received 90 cases(2,160 cans)of emergency canned drinking water to help keep our firefighters hydrated and safe while responding to wildland fires and other emergencies in extreme heat.

This donation will directly support the health and safety of our volunteers as they serve the citizens of Florala and our surrounding communities.

Thank you, Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) and -Busch , for your continued commitment to supporting volunteer firefighters across the country. Your partnership makes a real difference!

Florala Fire incident Call 7/21/26

Last night @ 10:19pm Florala Volunteer Fire Department responded to a report of a tree on power lines with embers and leaves beginning to catch fire.

Engine 36 and Truck 32 responded to the scene with two firefighters on each unit. Upon arrival, firefighters found the broken tree limb in contact with the power lines, creating a potential electrical hazard and causing tree limb to start arcing and burning.

Alabama Power was notified and responded to the scene. Our firefighters worked alongside Alabama Power and Florala Police Department to ensure the area remained safe. Once the scene was released by Alabama Power and Florala Police Department, the roadway was cleared and our units returned to service.

We remind everyone to stay away from downed or damaged power lines and always assume they are energized. If you see a power line down, keep a safe distance and contact 911 and your local power company.

On July 8, 2026 @ 12:24pm the Florala Fire Department responded to 1696 Sixth St. to a reported camper fire with two nearby homes in immediate danger of becoming involved.

Upon arrival, firefighters found a bumper pull camper fully involved in fire, with the intense heat already causing the siding on both neighboring homes to melt. Engine 36 quickly deployed a handline and began an aggressive fire attack while simultaneously cooling the exposed homes to prevent the fire from spreading.

The Lockhart Volunteer Fire Department responded as mutual aid and deployed a second handline to assist with extinguishing the fire. Their quick response and assistance were greatly appreciated.

Once the fire was brought under control, Lockhart Fire was released from the scene. Florala firefighters remained on scene to extinguish hot spots and ensure the area was safe before terminating command and returning all Florala Fire Department units to service.

We would like to thank the Lockhart Volunteer Fire Department for their assistance and teamwork. Incidents like this remind us how important mutual aid partnerships are in protecting our communities.

Structure Fire – July 7, 2026

At 7:37 PM, the Florala Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire at 726 Sixth Street. Engine 36 and Engine 33 responded immediately.

Due to the nature of the incident, Florala Fire requested mutual aid from Lockhart Volunteer Fire Department and Red Oak Volunteer Fire Department. Thanks to the quick response and teamwork of all agencies involved, firefighters were able to contain the fire to the attic area of the residence and successfully extinguish it before it could spread further.

We would like to thank Lockhart Volunteer Fire Department and Red Oak Volunteer Fire Department for their assistance and commitment to helping our community. We also want to thank Advanced EMS for standing by on scene to ensure the safety and well-being of all emergency personnel.

Incidents like these are a great reminder of the importance of mutual aid and the strong partnerships between neighboring departments. Working together makes our communities safer.

Thankfully, there were no reported firefighter injuries.
