Helping our youngest community members learn about fire safety is important. These visits also help children become comfortable with firefighters and understand that we are here to help.

🚨 NO BURNING NOTICE:


The Florala Volunteer Fire Department would like to inform everyone that, due to the ongoing drought conditions and forecasted heavy winds this Saturday and Sunday, all outdoor burning within the city limits of Florala is to be halted until Monday.

At the request of the Mayor, we are asking all residents within the city limits to refrain from burning until further notice.

We are also strongly encouraging residents outside the city limits to avoid outdoor burning during this time. With the dry conditions and high winds expected, fires can quickly get out of control and threaten homes, property, and lives.

With the storm and hurricane debris, we understand the need to clean up yards and properties. However, please do not burn this weekend. Your safety and the safety of our community are our top priorities.

* Burning may resume Monday, provided wind conditions have improved and it is safe to do so.

Thank you for your cooperation and for helping us keep Florala and our surrounding communities safe!

⚡ STORM RECOVERY SAFETY REMINDER ⚡

As power is restored following a storm or hurricane, please take a few minutes to check your home for potential electrical hazards.

⚠️ Electrical Safety Tips:

* Unplug appliances that may have been exposed to water. Do not use them until they have been inspected and determined safe.
* Check for flickering lights, sparks, burning odors, buzzing sounds, or outlets that feel hot.
* Stay away from downed power lines and report them to your local power company. Always assume they are energized.
* If you notice damaged wiring, a burning smell, or other signs of electrical trouble, stay clear and contact a qualified electrician.
* If you see smoke or fire, get everyone outside and call 911.
* Check smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors to make sure they are working properly.

Remember: Power being restored does not automatically mean your home’s electrical system is safe. If you suspect electrical damage, do not attempt repairs yourself.

Please take care of yourselves, look out for your neighbors, and stay safe as our community recovers.

🚨 Please call 911 only for emergencies requiring immediate police, fire, or medical assistance.

To report trees down on main highways when there is no immediate danger, call 334-427-4911. If someone is injured, trapped, or in immediate danger, call 911.

Please stay off the roadways unless travel is absolutely necessary. Unnecessary travel puts you and the first responders who may have to come to your rescue at risk.

Never drive around barricades or approach downed power lines. Help keep our community and our first responders safe! ❤️

Listen to your local radio station, news channel, and FFD page for updates.

We have a list of things to do before a hurricane or big storm listed below:

• Secure outdoor furniture, decorations, grills, trash cans, etc.
• Clean out gutters and check drainage around your home.
• Charge phones, battery packs, and other essential devices.
• Have flashlights and extra batteries ready.
• Stock up on water, medications, and necessary supplies.
• Make sure you have several days of food and drinking water.
• Check on elderly neighbors, family members, and anyone who may need assistance.
• Keep vehicles fueled and avoid unnecessary travel as conditions deteriorate.
• If you have a generator, make sure it is ready and NEVER operate it inside a home, garage, or enclosed area.
• Stay informed and monitor official weather and emergency alerts.

Remember: Conditions can change quickly. Do not wait until the storm is approaching to make preparations.

The Florala Volunteer Fire Department is preparing as well and will continue to monitor the situation and work with our community partners to keep our citizens as safe as possible.

Please take this storm seriously, stay informed, and look out for one another.

FIRE PREVENTION WEEK 2026

The Florala Fire Department is proud to join fire departments across the country in recognizing Fire Prevention Week, October 4–10!

This year’s theme is:

⚡ “Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower.” ⚡

Our phones, tablets, laptops, power tools, toys, e-bikes and other devices rely on lithium-ion batteries every day. Charging them safely can help prevent dangerous battery fires.

🔌 Use the correct charger
🔥 Don’t charge devices on beds or couches
⚠️ Stop using batteries that are swollen, damaged or unusually hot
🏠 Keep larger battery-powered devices away from exits while charging
👨‍🚒 When we prevent a fire, we protect our families, our community and our firefighters.

And of course, Sparky is here to remind everyone that fire safety starts with YOU!
