SPOTLIGHT ON CLIMATE - April 2026:
A New Era of Climate Migration is Upon Us
In his new book "Shelter from the Storm" author Julian Hattem tells the story of extreme circumstances that lead people to flee their homes and how climate change is pushing people to that point. In this Spotlight on Climate article Julian gives an overview of the story and invites us to engage before it's too late.

Read the article and come out to meet Julian on the radio show, or at any of his three local presentations and book-signing events:

Everywhere: Spotlight on Climate Radio Show with Host Ross Davis
May 1st, 10:00 am, Radio Sunnyside, KSZN 101.5 FM
Prescott: presentation & signing, Peregrin Book Co. Bookstore,
May 1st, 4:00 pm, 219 N. Cortez St., Prescott, AZ
Sedona: talk & signing, Sedona Unitarian Universalist Fellowship,
May 3rd, 10:00 am, United Methodist Church, 110 Indian Dr.
Flagstaff: presentation & signing, Bright Side Bookshop

YES, Global Warming has Accelerated, but WHY?

While emissions have increased steadily, there has not been a sudden leap in atmospheric CO2 concentrations the way there has been a leap in temperature rise.

In this video Dave Borlace summarizes research saying that a predominant factor might be the reduction in human-released aerosols from industrial pollution. While this may be a factor, I would like to point out that the real sudden shift has been the sudden leap in global sea surface temperature that started in 2023.

Up until now, 90% of the excess heat trapped by anthropogenic greenhouse gases has been absorbed by the oceans. They do this because the ocean water is cooler than the atmosphere.

Now that ocean surfaces are warmer, the oceans are not going to pick up as much heat because the temperature differential is suddenly lower. I would suggest that the leap we are seeing in atmospheric temperature is primarily because the oceans are no longer absorbing as much of the greenhouse heat.

SPOTLIGHT ON CLIMATE - March 2026:
What's this Migration Fuss all about?
For people in the United States, the massive human suffering of the DUST BOWL of the 1930's is burned into our history. That historic drought made 2.5 million US citizens flee their homes to try to survive somewhere else.

Now Global Climate change is driving over 30 million people to flee their homes every year. Not only do we need to reign in our emissions, but we also have a responsibility to help these millions of climate refugees.

After all, we may soon be climate refugees ourselves.

It's Summer Already - in February
On the one hand it's great to take the doggie for a walk without having to put gloves on. On the other hand, if this is what February is like, what the hell will this summer be?

SPOTLIGHT ON CLIMATE - February 2026:
Five Climate Lessons from the Golden Toad
As climate change continues to accelerate, which species are most likely to go extinct? One of the first species that went extinct due to climate change was the Golden Toad which once lived in the high cloud forests of Costa Rica.

This species was last seen in 1989. What lessons can we learn from what happened to the Golden Toad? Trevor Ritland writes this Spotlight article to tell the story and give us five lessons this species has for us and other species now suffering from the effects of climate change.

Trevor and his brother Kyle have also written a book on the Golden Toad published by Diversion Books in 2025. Find out more at:

SPOTLIGHT ON CLIMATE - January 2026:
Palisades Fire Survivors Are Speaking Up
What do you do when your house has burned to the ground? When your place of work no longer exists? When your school is gone and your neighbors have moved or live with shelter services?

As climate change dries up our landscapes, more and more communities across the Western United States are dealing with such climate disasters. The number of wildfires has more than doubled. Wildfires are now more intense and often 10 times larger.

Palisades High School students whose lives have been disrupted are organizing to MAKE POLLUTERS PAY.

Come hear their stories at a PRESS CONFERENCE on January 24th: https://actionnetwork.org/events/pacific-palisades-students-have-had-enough/
