CCC Board - Do the Right Thing and spend our $100 million bond responsibly!

Dr. David Spence wrote a letter to the CCC Board of Directors in the Daily Sun today.

Heat pumps will save money, they both heat & cool buildings, and they are tried and true for Flagstaff. Heat pumps are already working in some of Flagstaff's large buildings and now in thousands of Flagstaff homes.

Heat pumps are the wave of the future and there is no reason to choose more expensive combustion furnaces along with an AC system when heat pumps can do both.

Contact your CCC Board of Directors and urge them to do the right thing by choosing heat pumps for their two new buildings.

CCC Board of Directors need to spend bond money responsibly

We gave the CCC Board of Directors $100 million to build two new buildings. Why are they deciding to use old technology that will cost us even more for years to come?

Last November, voters approved a $100 million capital construction bond for Coconino Community College (CCC). Now the CCC Board of Directors is approving building designs for new buildings at the

WE NEED TO DECOUPLE electricity pricing from FOSSIL FUEL COSTS

1) Why are electricity costs rising even as less expensive renewable energy grows?

2) It's because electricity prices are based on the marginal cost of more expensive fossil fuels.

3) We need to decouple by using stable contract based pricing with each electricity generator

If electricity prices were based on long term fixed price contracts for renewable energy, then electrical prices would fall and more expensive fossil fuel generation would fail.

SPOTLIGHT ON CLIMATE - May 2026:
Climate Disruption is the ultimate "Tragedy of the Commons"
In the tragedy of the commons as described by Garrett Hardin in 1968, the shared resource was a meadow in which individual farmers benefited by adding more cows even as the total number of cows overwhelmed and killed the meadow's ability to produce grass. In this new article, Bryan Bates points out that when we consider the atmosphere as the shared resource, the tragedy of its over-use is global.

As we continue to use our atmosphere as a place to dump greenhouse gases, the collective impact of all our emissions is overwhelming the atmosphere's ability to support us. Since this affects global climate, it affects everything and the consequences are truly tragic.

It's not too late, but the only way we can reduce global climate change is if we work together to reduce our emissions NOW.

Do we have a responsibility to do our part? Yes, we do.
