🇺🇸 25 YEARS LATER — WE WILL NEVER FORGET
On September 11, 2001, our nation experienced a loss that forever changed America and the fire service.
Today, on the 25th anniversary of 9/11, IAFF Local 5382 pauses to remember the 2,977 innocent lives taken that day and the 441 first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice while answering the call.
Among those lost were:
đźš’ 343 FDNY firefighters
đźš“ 37 Port Authority Police Department officers
đźš” 23 NYPD officers
đźš‘ 8 private emergency medical personnel
⚖️ 3 New York State court officers
đźš’ 1 New York Fire Patrol member
🇺🇸 And other first responders who ran toward danger while others sought safety.
We also honor the thousands of firefighters, police officers, EMS personnel, recovery workers, and volunteers who worked at Ground Zero and the other attack sites—and those who have since died or continue to battle illnesses caused by their service.
Twenty-five years later, their sacrifice remains part of who we are.
We remember the firefighters who climbed the stairs knowing others were coming down. We remember the police officers, paramedics, EMTs, and every responder who answered the call. We remember the families who never saw their loved ones come home.
2,977 lives. 441 first responders. 343 firefighters.
25 years later, we still remember. We still honor. We will never forget.
