Kona landed in the shelter twice but much of what happened is still unknown. We know he was briefly adopted by an inexperienced person who gave up quickly and he ended up stray again. Thankfully, he won over shelter volunteers and we received a plea to help him. Kona is a big boy and strong but he is also quite gentle in quieter environments. He has been in play groups with other dogs while at the shelter but his behavior can probably be best described as “selective”. When meeting calm dogs in a calm environment he has been well behaved so we’re hoping he can find a similar home. Kona is about 3 years old and ready to find. home that can offer proper structure and guidance.

Happy everyone!!

This one is brought to you by Uno, the funniest boy who needs absolutely no assistance to have a good time. He can play fetch all by himself, having a blast throwing and catching his toy all around our play area. He probably has to live as an only dog in your home but if you only have the space or time for one then he’s a pretty awesome choice. Check back for about Uno this week!

We are so grateful for Special Needs Dobermans and the help they provide for our major medical cases. Our vet tried to save Gunner’s badly broken leg but sometimes best laid plans don’t work out. He’s an adorable tripod now but at least he’s on the road to a full recovery and hopefully a forever home on the horizon. If you ever have a few extra bucks to donate please consider Special Needs Dobermans because they help not just us but so many other Doberman rescues across the country.

https://www.doberman911.org/

Gunner’s face is the epitome of what a Doberman is: strong, stoic even when in pain, loving, handsome, patient, caring, gentle, sweet, and trusting. This gorgeous 5-year-old has had quite a terrible time in those years. After many from the shelter advocated for him to be saved, Doberman Pinscher Rescue (DPR) took him under their wings. He was placed with a DPR foster first. He had scars from his previous life and white hairs on his head that seem to form a heart. Sad that some kind of injury likely caused that. DPR was told that Gunner had a fractured pelvis, which is not that serious, sometimes just a lengthy healing process of confinement for 4-6 weeks. Then DPR found out that his pelvis was fhad not been fracture, the problem turned out to be a compound fracture of his femur - broken clean through. His surgery had to be postponed for a few days because he had bronchitis.

Owning Kevin will require a specific kind of owner, one that is strong and committed to putting in the work to make this stunning dog more manageable and fulfilled. To start, he will need a spacious fenced yard to expel at least some of his energy, and mentally challenging games/training to keep him engaged. We think he would do best in an adult home and though he has shown some social skills with other dogs, he has also had outbursts out of frustration. Kevin was adopted from an animal shelter and returned a few months later because of his barking which can be incessant when he is overstimulated and unfocused. He has shown zero aggression towards people but his behaviors could be difficult to manage without daily fulfillment so he wouldn’t be good for a first time Dobie owner. He’s about 16 months old as of May, 2026.

Happy from silly boy Sarge.

“Sometimes it’s hard to balance a story about a dog’s behavior previously and the dog standing in front of us now. It was reported to us that Sarge nipped someone previously. It didn’t break skin and we may never know if it was excitement or defensive. I do know that yesterday while filling his water bucket, he put his head in my hand and fell asleep. It was brief but to offer a dog a moment of complete peace and connection is a magical experience. This big, all-natural lug nut quickly pulled at my heart strings so I hope he not only gets an amazing home soon but he finds someone that can love his crazy and soulful heart.”

This is a courtesy post so please use the contact info in the post if you have any questions.

I’m comprised of some awesome breeds and not only that, I’m sweet and loving, gentle and smart, super loyal, great health, and just 100% amazing dog! I’m searching for my fur-ever home as my owner could no longer care for me. I have spent most of my life in a loving family environment, so I’m a great family dog and would do well in a home with older kids or just Mom and Dad. I would like a home where someone is around most of the day, as I want to be near you as I sometimes can have separation anxiety and get lonely. I’m housebroken, I walk well on a leash and listen and look to you for direction. I’m gentle with treats - have no food or toy aggression. I know several commands: sit, down, speak, shake, stay, and I could learn more. I love walks, playing fetch, tug-of-war, laying in the sun, and love car rides. I’m not a fan of bikes, skateboards, scooters or motorcycles. But, with the frequent offsite visits with volunteers they are teaching me that these things won’t hurt me and I know within time with your training, love and knowing I feel secure with you, I will adapt to these things. I’m also feeling quite comfortable going into stores and restaurants and I’ve made several friends in the
places I’ve visited. I prefer to be the only dog and only pet in the home. But, if you have another dog, we would need to have a ‘meet and greet’ first to see if we are a fit — I’m not good with cats. I am the perfect companion for anyone looking for a loving dog and waiting for my new family! If you’re interested in meeting me, please fill out an online application at: www.carldogs.org Or… you can contact Sue Seiler (805.794.5584) or Bev Loyd (818.472.2602) and they will be
happy to answer any questions you have.

Sarge is a big youngster, estimated at 16 months old as of May, 2026. He’s “all natural” (long tail and natural ears), and he weighs about 80 pounds. We are recommending him for an adult home because in a foster home the animal shelter had placed him in, he nipped the foster’s boyfriend for reasons that weren’t mentioned. (It was not a bite; he did not break skin.) The foster then suspected that Sarge prefers women but in our experience, he’s been friendly to both men and women. He does gets excited during playtime and we could also him being mouthy or physically demanding during that time. He’s intelligent, playful and athletic so a home that can further his training and put his energy to good use would be ideal. He seems to behave well with his female kennelmate and loves to play.
