Rosalie’s owner had her for less than 3 months before having to give her up due to a move. She is quite a delightful dog! She’s housebroken, good with other dogs and kids, and not destructive. Rosalie is also quite pretty. She’s average size for a female and has no known negative behaviors. We’re hoping her next home is “forever!”

Little piece of advice we give to new adopters…do not let new dogs on the furniture. We hear so often about dogs snapping, growling or in more extreme cases, biting, when they’re disturbed during sleep. This does not necessarily mean a dog is aggressive but they live the rest of their lives with that label. If you watch dogs interacting with each other you’ll notice they have same reaction when bothered while they’re resting. We know that many people want to sleep with their dog on the bed or the couch, spoiling their new addition with “love” but it can lead to disaster. If you bring a new dog into your life then understand that respected boundaries lead to a happier, healthier and better behaved dog. Does that mean you can never invite your dog onto the furniture? It often depends on the individual dog and their relationship with the rules. Please be careful and make sure you’re putting in the work to help your dog understand what’s expected of them in your home. It does not happen overnight, they are not psychic and they are animals in a completely foreign place, not a perfectly well behaved toy. Stay safe everyone.

Darby has been with us over two years as of early summer, 2026. One word we often use to describe him is “patient.” He patiently waits by his gate and fence for attention when he’s not playing or lounging in the same dogloo with his female Dobie kennelmate. In the early days of Darby’s stay with us he was somewhat reactive to other males when being walked or when they passed by his kennel, but he has mellowed and matured during his stay, and his behavior is exemplary now. Perhaps in his previous home he was encouraged to be more guardy, but he isn’t saying. Darby is about 5 years old and average-sized at 60-65 pounds.

Iris has spent over a year with us as of early summer, 2026, and she has had virtually no adoption interest. Is it because she’s a blue Dobie, with the typical patchy blue Dobie coat? Or is it because of her ears that look not quite cropped but not quite natural either? Whatever the reason, it’s unfortunate, because behaviorally Iris is one of our cutest, best-behaved dogs! She’s a happy dog that flirts and plays with her male Dobie kennelmate, and she’s mellow, biding her time lounging in her dogloo or in a shady area on hot days. Iris is now about 5 years old and weighs 65-70 pounds.

Augie is such an incredible hunk of a dobie boy and we’ve been trying to find him the right home for far too long. He’s about 4 years old now and though he can be strong, he responds so well to training. He’s super smart, loves to show off his tricks and he is super affectionate. He would do best in a home that has a sense of humor! The sad part is that so many adopters now have high expectations when it comes to dogs being good with other dogs and most of our Dobies are dog selective (post coming soon about this topic). Augie is great with his female kennelmate but we can’t recommend him for a home with another male dog or small dogs (also no kitties). While he has become much better behaved around other dogs on leash, he won’t be the social butterfly at the park and reliable around ALL other dogs. The thing is…that describes a lot of dogs. It shouldn’t be the reason he can’t find a home so we are going to keep on sharing him. Keep your head up Augie doggie, we’ll find them!

Luna had reached the end of her animal shelter stay and we thought she was much too cute to have her life cut short. She is under four months old (as of mid-June, 2026), still having only puppy teeth, and to us she looks very much like a melanistic (all one color) Doberman puppy. Her DNA test would be an interesting one! Luna weighs about 20 pounds, she’s very social with all her small-dog friends, and her shelter paperwork indicates that she is already spayed.
