Last week, on the first day of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we welcomed 340 members of our community to the 14th Annual Courage Awards Luncheon presented by C&C Services.

Peace at Home had the incredible honor of recognizing the remarkable women who founded the Project for Victims of Family Violence, Peace at Home's original name, in 1977.

Representing the founding mothers, we welcomed Dr. Barbara Taylor, Dr. Honore Hughes, and Suzanne Pharr to the stage for an inspiring panel discussion about launching the Project, the challenges they faced, and their hopes for our future as Peace at Home looks toward celebrating 50 years in 2027.

One message they left us with lingers in the air: we have come so far since 1977, but we still have much work to do. Organizations like Peace at Home cannot do the work alone. Together, we can organize and build a foundation on which change can take root and grow.

Together, we raised over $52,000 to provide safe shelter and support for families escaping domestic violence!

To everyone that sponsored, attended, donated at, or volunteered at this special event— thank you for making our work possible!

Special thanks to Melanie Palmer for sharing her family's story, reminding us how valuable it is to belong to a community that invests in life-saving resources. We'd also like to extend a big thank you to Event Group Catering for the delicious meal and to Chris Lastra for photographing this event.

At our meeting today, Taylor Reed with Peace at Home Family Shelter spoke about services they provide, how their system works, and relevant statistics, including that 58% of Arkansas women self-reported having been victims of domestic abuse, and that actual numbers are higher. Thank you, Taylor, for reminding us of the vital work Peace at Home Family Shelter does for NWA!

Having an anxious attachment style makes leaving abuse very difficult.

For those with an anxious attachment style, attachment wounds (deep emotional injuries often stemming from childhood/having your trust broken) come from a fear of abandonment. This fear leads to needing more than typical reassurance to feel connected and at peace.

The cycle of violence triggers attachment wounds and attachment wounds contribute to the cycle. In other words, anxious attachment is worsened by abuse.

The good news is attachment styles are not written in stone and Peace at Home is here for you if this is something you're struggle with.

Our advocates are available 24/7. Give us a call to ask about our counseling services at 479-442-9811.
