This weekend your Scorpion Cadets tried to spread some joy in a time of devastation throughout our community. We supported the Elk’s Lodge Halloween Carnival! Things got spooky but all the kiddos had a blast!

I’ll admit, I’m one of those people who gets emotional when our National Anthem is played. The Star Spangle Banner, Our Nation’s Flag, and all it represent—that has always touched me deeply.
As a photographer, I’ve also made a personal choice over the years. When the National Anthem begins, my camera comes down. I don’t photograph. I stand with everyone else, facing our flag, hat off and my right hand over my heart.
There are plenty of photographs to be made before and after the Anthem. But during those few minutes, I’d rather be a part of the moment than photograph it. I want the young men and women on the field, and the people in the stands, to see that the photographer on the sideline is standing with them, showing the same respect for our nation, our flag, and everything it represents.
That’s one of the reasons I’m especially proud and honored to capture moments like this before the Anthem—our FHS Color Guard standing at attention, ready to bring out Old Glory, our New Mexico State Flag, and the Scorpion Flag.
A moment of pride, respect, and tradition before the Scorpions take the field.
