Great day for all Indigenous people. Today a proclamation was signed for, "Indigenous Peoples Day" by the Fresno City Council! Our own FAIHP Board Member, Leece Lee Oliver was one of the guest presenters. City of Fresno will be holding a outdoor ceremony on October 11th to formally present the proclamation.

Today is Indigenous Peoples' Day in La Plata County.
On October 6, 2020, the Board issued the Proclamation.
We were honored to have the entire Southern Ute Tribal Council join our meeting and share their thoughts about the day and their hopes and visions of cooperation and good relationships among Native American people and people of other cultures in our community.
La Plata County is blessed to be enriched culturally, socially, professionally and in many other ways by Native Americans living with us, on and off of tribal lands.
We were also joined by Kathryn Redhorse, Executive Director of the Colorado Commission of Indian Affairs and Ernest House, Jr., a Ute Mountain Ute tribal member and former ED of CCIA. Unfortunately, Ute Mountain Tribal Council was not able to join.

72% of the kids Cuba ISD serves are from the Navajo & Jicarilla Apache Reservations. This year enrollment numbers have gone up, so they’re struggling to provide those students w/ needed laptops, & replacing broken ones. Internet connection is pretty much non-existent on the Reservations when all schooling is online. There are 3 hotspot locations, but they are so widespread that some kids need to drive 20+ miles to get access to the internet. They’ve been requesting Wifi jetpacks & struggling to allocate funds. Donations made through this event will be sent directly to Cuba ISD to help in this process.

We stand in solidarity with all those who have been impacted by colonialism especially through recent manifestations of stolen land, Coronavirus, and lack of access to education. Our goal is $10k! If you are interested in contributing, please make a donation today.
