Stay alert.
Students are returning to school
🚸 SCHOOL IS BACK — SLOW DOWN & STAY ALERT! 🚸
As students head back to school, the Fallon Police Department is reminding everyone to use a little extra caution on our roadways.
🚌 Slow down in school zones and watch for posted speed limits and flashing lights.
🚸 Watch for crosswalks. Be prepared to stop for students crossing the roadway, especially before and after school.
👀 Expect the unexpected. Children may step into the roadway or cross between parked vehicles. Stay alert and give yourself extra stopping distance.
📵 Put the phone down. Distracted driving and school zones are a dangerous combination.
🚌 Watch for school buses and obey their flashing lights and stop signals.
⏰ Give yourself a few extra minutes. Morning and afternoon traffic will increase around our schools. Leaving a little earlier means you won't feel rushed.
Parents, please remind your children to use designated crosswalks, look both ways before crossing, and make eye contact with drivers whenever possible.
⚠️ REMEMBER — SCHOOL ZONE RULES:Under NRS 484B.363, drivers may not make a U-turn or overtake/pass another vehicle in an active school zone or school crossing zone.
Under NRS 484B.627, drivers may not stop in a travel lane to load/unload passengers.
Under NRS 484B.353, drivers may not pass a school bus while it is stopped with its lights flashing and stop signs out. (From either direction) It is a Misdemeanor violation.
Our officers will be paying close attention to school zones and crosswalks as the school year gets underway.
Slow down. Stay alert. Help us keep our kids safe.
