Today, we're sharing the story of one of our own. Gail, a life member of FLVAC, is currently living with End Stage Kidney Disease and is in need of a kidney transplant. After years of dedicating her time to serving our community and helping others in their moments of need, she is now asking for help herself.
Please take a moment to read her story, share this post, and help us spread the word. One donor could change a life.

Gail Cebular is seeking a living kidney donor. Paired exchange may allow you to help even if you’re not a direct match. Confidential screening takes only a few minutes.

Happy EMS Week! Today’s theme is EMS Remembrance Day. We honor the members whose dedication and service helped shape FLVAC into what it is today. At Fair Lawn Borough Hall, the Wall of Honor recognizes individuals whose impact on the organization and community will never be forgotten.

The first FLVAC member recognized was Ed Cooper, who served from 1956 until 1989. Known as the spirit of the Corps, Ed served multiple terms as president, helped oversee the purchase of a new ambulance in 1964 and led the first headquarters renovation in 1965. His legacy lives on through his well-known quote: “The only ‘i’ in ambulance corps is spelled ‘WE.’”

Other inductees include Gail Cebular, FLVAC’s first female president, who led the Corps through major events including 9/11 and the Fair Lawn Plaza Building fire, and Ira Marks, who helped obtain the Corps’ first defibrillators and well known as a mentor and friend to many.

Today, we celebrate and honor the lasting impact these members have had on FLVAC and the community.

Happy EMS Week! Today’s theme is EMS Recognition Day. Today, we recognize and thank the dedicated officers of FLVAC who work tirelessly behind the scenes to manage the day to day operations of the organization. From handling administrative responsibilities and maintaining equipment to overseeing the many moving parts that keep the organization running smoothly, their efforts help ensure FLVAC can continue serving the community each day.

FLVAC also wants to thank our members and EMTs everywhere for their continued commitment to providing compassionate care and answering the call whenever their communities need them. Your dedication and hard work do not go unnoticed.

Happy EMS Week! Today’s theme is Save-A-Life Day. Every second counts during an emergency, and having the knowledge and confidence to perform CPR can help make a critical difference before first responders arrive. FLVAC is proud to offer community CPR classes to help teach lifesaving skills and prepare members of our community to respond in an emergency situation.

Happy EMS Week! Today’s theme is EMS for Children. In addition to providing emergency medical care, EMS providers also play an important role in helping children feel safe and comfortable around ambulances and first responders. Teaching children about the ambulance, equipment and what to expect during an emergency can help ease fear and keep them calmer if they ever need our help.

Whether responding to emergencies, visiting community events or speaking with children about EMS, FLVAC is committed to caring for and supporting the youngest members of our community.

Happy EMS Week! Today’s theme is EMS Safety Day. Safety is a critical part of every response, whether operating on roadways, at emergency scenes or while providing standby coverage at large events. Wearing ANSI safety vests helps improve visibility and protect first responders working in high traffic or crowded environments.

During events, especially in hot weather, FLVAC crews remain prepared to respond quickly to heat related illnesses and other emergencies while also making sure crews stay hydrated and safe throughout the day. Taking the proper safety precautions helps ensure both responders and the community remain protected.

Happy EMS Week! Today’s theme is Education Day. Continuing education and hands on training play an important role in preparing our members for the wide variety of calls they may encounter while on shift. Pictured here are some members participating in one of our monthly probationary trainings designed to help build well rounded skills and confidence in the field.

In addition to probationary trainings, our organization holds monthly trainings for all members to continue learning and strengthening their knowledge. We also offer a community first aid class every year for anyone interested in learning basic lifesaving skills such as bleeding control and EpiPen use. If you or someone you know is interested in our community first aid class, be sure to sign up today!

Happy EMS Week! Today’s theme is Health, Wellness and Resilience, highlighting the value of staying connected, maintaining balance, and finding time to recharge. Pictured here are one of our EMS members and members of the police department sharing some laughs while playing carnival games together. Moments like these help strengthen the teamwork and friendships that carry over into serving our community every day.
