Who would have thought that 8 years later our communities would need a Second Urgent Forum on the tragic « Impact of Immigration Policies on Mental Health » of our children, youth, individuals and families? Here we go again, a young person suffered a terrible death by suicidal thoughts due to dehumanizing policies. In 2018 we gathered public officials / policy makers, mental health experts, clergy, providers to tackle this problem. What have achieved since then? Why are we here today dealing with worse outcomes? How must we look policies and their impact through new lenses and leadership ? Join us for the Second Forum in Everett on 9/19/2026.

Would you join EHCC in taking a caring 30 seconds moment of silence?

We have learned with great sadness, accompanied by emotion, of the tragic death of Pierre Damas Bel, a 20-year-old Haitian student living in Springfield, Ohio.

Losing a child is one of the greatest trials a parent can go through. In this moment of pain, EHCC extends its deepest sympathy to Pierre Damas Bel’s parents, family, loved ones, as well as the Haitian community in Springfield, Ohio, and everywhere else deeply affected by this death.

Pierre Damas Bel was a young student with dreams, ambitions, and plans for the future. Clearly, his passing came too early, and it is a huge loss for his family, for the Haitian community in Springfield, for the Haitian diaspora, and for the entire country. EHCC calls for solidarity and takes this moment to send sympathy to the Haitian community living in the diaspora, especially those in the United States.

Our communities are mourning the tragic death of young student, Pierre Damas Bel who felt 'humiliated' by ankle monitor died by su***de. He excelled in academics and athletics, becoming an honor roll student and joining JROTC. He was recruited to play soccer at Wittenberg University and hoped to attend medical school after college. Hours before Ohio college student and athlete Pierre Damas Bel took his own life, he called his father for help. Bel said he had been bullied at school and felt “humiliated” by being forced to wear an ankle monitor by immigration officials.

“I told him to come home so we can talk,” Bel’s father said. “Around 11 the police showed at my door to report that my son threw himself under a truck.”

Bel stepped into oncoming traffic and died from his injuries, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said. His family blamed the humiliation brought on by the ankle monitor he had been wearing since July.

1 in 20 U.S. adults (5%) have serious thoughts of su***de each year. If you or someone you know is struggling, or in emotional distress, help is here. 📞 In a crisis? Call/text 988 to reach the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline 24/7.

Peace with his beautiful soul.

The center will be able to provide counseling from 1 to 6 pm on September 3rd to youth, Adults and families.

On September 19th. The second Forum on impact of policies on mental health in Everett will take place 11am-2 pm at 467 Broadway in Everett.

Turn this primary election into one that astonishes the electorate. Yes, PEs do not usually have big turnout numbers, but this is a different time for a more robust civic engagement in our community, state and nation. Go cast your ballot!!!

EVERETT VOTERS THIS IS FOR YOU.-

We knocked on your doorsteps, we registered new voters, You have only a few hours left to exercise the most important right given to you by the our US Constitution - the right to vote.
To you, the New young adult voters who recently registered to vote, go and cast your ballot as if your future/ your life depended on it. Vote for those who don’t yet have that right. Vote for those from whom that right is menaced.
Thank you to our young leaders who helped young adults and new citizens in our community to register to vote. Your civic engagement is testament to your dedication and leadership skills put into actionable steps.
We know in general, primarily elections in our communities don’t generate much enthusiasm. However, As Our Executive Director cast her vote today, we encourage all to turn this primary election into a new beginning for civic engagement.
