Three months ago, Quinten was ready for a fresh start. Determined to make positive changes in his life, he began utilizing the resources and services available within his community and was referred to Do-All, Inc.'s Individual Placement and Support (IPS) program.

Working alongside Job Development Specialist Kayleen, he quickly began building the foundation needed for a successful job search. Together, they developed a professional resume from scratch, created a cover letter, and navigated the technical aspects of finding employment. For many job seekers, utilizing online job platforms and completing electronic applications can be overwhelming. Having support throughout the process helped reduce stress and made the experience more manageable.

Reflecting on his experience, he shared that working with Do-All, Inc. helped "make it easier," noting that having support made the job search process less stressful and overwhelming.

Before long, interviews were being scheduled, but transportation remained a significant barrier. Despite these challenges, he remained committed to finding employment and was willing to walk, ride a bike, or use public transportation...whatever it took to get to work on time.

Through the Busting Barriers Grant funded by United Way of Bay County, Do-All, Inc. was able to purchase a bicycle and bike lock to support his employment goals. This resource provided more than transportation, it gave him confidence when interviewing, knowing he could reliably get to work. He shared, "Without that, I truly wouldn't be able to work."

His hard work and determination paid off when he was offered a position as a Line Cook. He and Kayleen celebrated this exciting milestone together and immediately shifted their focus to preparing for his first day on the job. He was able to utilize the Busting Barriers Grant again to help purchase non-slip work shoes, ensuring he had the necessary equipment to work safely in the kitchen.

Since starting at Cracker Barrel, he has found the position to be an excellent fit. He describes the environment as "family oriented" and shares that he is building positive relationships with his coworkers. Having the support and resources needed to secure and maintain employment has helped him successfully transition into this new chapter of his life.

When asked how employment has changed his life, he initially responded, "Financially, of course." However, he went on to explain the deeper impact employment has had on his overall well-being.

"It's helped with my depression. I feel good working. It's healthy for me."

While gaining employment is a significant milestone, he remains focused on continued growth. Noting this is just one step of success towards much greater things. Most recently, he worked with Kayleen to obtain a budgeting book and has set new goals for himself, including saving money toward purchasing a vehicle. He also is hoping to be able to gain additional hours & responsibilities in his role at Cracker Barrel in the future.

His journey is a powerful reminder that with determination, community resources, and the right support, meaningful employment can become a pathway to greater independence, improved mental health, and a brighter future.

Sometimes you just need a train ride!

A few of our CLS participants recently spent the day at Huckleberry Railroad enjoying the sights, the ride, and plenty of laughs along the way. Experiences like these are what CLS is all about - getting out, having fun, making connections, and creating memories that last long after the trip is over.

Our Art CLS group enjoyed spending time downtown, checking out Bay City’s colorful public artwork and creating some masterpieces of our own with sidewalk chalk. We love finding simple ways to connect with our community, enjoy the outdoors, and get inspired by the creativity all around us.

The Empowering Students program has had the pleasure of exploring several incredible community partners through a variety of employer visits and hands-on learning experiences.

Students visited MBS International Airport, where they learned about airport fire engines, how crews keep the runways clear and safe, and even got a behind-the-scenes look at air traffic control.

Students also spent time at Heartland Hospice, where they worked on developing office and administrative skills through hands-on activities and volunteer experiences. It was a wonderful opportunity to practice important workplace skills in a supportive environment.

At Serenity Equine Facility, students learned what it’s like to work with horses and experienced these beautiful animals up close.

Another exciting visit included Dow Diamond. Students got a behind-the-scenes tour to see everything it takes to keep game day running smoothly — from operations to feeding the fans. To make the experience even more memorable, students each got to take home a baseball that had been used during a game.

Students also had the opportunity to tour Auburn United Financial Credit Union, where they learned about the many different careers within a credit union and how the organization operates day to day. They even got to see freshly printed and stamped $1 coins created for Auburn’s upcoming 150th anniversary celebration.

We are incredibly grateful to all of the businesses and organizations that welcomed our students and shared insight into their career paths and workplaces. These experiences continue to provide valuable opportunities for students to explore careers, build skills, and learn more about their futures.

We are so grateful for our partnership with Serenity Equine Facility💙They partner with us in so many ways to support the individuals we serve, and we truly value everything they do alongside us.

Because of their support, students have the opportunity to gain paid, real, hands-on work experience on a horse farm, learning responsibility, building job skills, and growing their confidence in a meaningful way.

Through our Community Living Support program, individuals also get to spend time at the farm making new friends, experiencing the calming and therapeutic presence of the horses, overcoming personal fears, and even expressing themselves through art. It’s truly a place where growth, connection, and joy come together.

This is what your support makes possible.

Rebecca & Kyle's story says it best 💙

Through the support of Do-All, Inc. services, Rebecca's son has found and kept a meaningful job as a crossing guard, built confidence, formed strong friendships, and even created and sold his own art.

“Knowing that we have a safe team to work with allows me to relax, to say yes a whole lot more, and the confidence that I'm not afraid helps him go out and be more confident in the community also and helps him to take that extra step. Would he have been working at a food pantry on his own? Probably not. But he does now!”

This is the impact your support makes.

As part of Give Local Bay, we’re asking for your help to continue creating opportunities like this for individuals and families in our community. Every donation makes a difference.

This is Jordan's story. You’ll see him here at The Carriage House with his boss, Joe, and his coworkers, who are a pretty fun team.

Jordan's story is about showing up, doing meaningful work, and being part of something that matters.

Give Local Bay is tomorrow, and it’s a chance to support more stories like this right here in our community! Please consider making a gift on Tuesday, May 5th, to support the sustainability of Do-All, Inc. and help keep opportunities like this growing!

We’re grateful to The Carriage House for being a part of Jordan's journey, and to the Bay Area Community Foundation for helping fund this video to amplify Jordan’s voice!

Also, we want to give a HUGE shoutout to our film crew from the CMU School of Communication, Journalism, and Media, & Ochre & Pine Studio for helping us every step of the way.
