By all measures, this year’s Art in the Barn was a resounding success!

Our sincere thanks to all who visited, volunteered, or participated. From start to finish, the event was a lively and engaging celebration of creativity, community, and conservation — with record attendance and sales.

Perfect — if a bit hot and humid — weather set the stage for this year’s art extravaganza, which included a lively opening reception on Friday evening featuring live music, food trucks, and beverages (including Greenbelt Pilsner). This positive energy carried into Saturday, as a steady stream of friends and supporters visited the exhibition, many lingering to enjoy the natural beauty of Cox Reservation.

Last week, a cheerful group of outdoor enthusiasts and Greenbelt supporters gathered at Richardson’s Ice Cream in Middleton to celebrate the conclusion of our year-long Go-Getter Trails Challenge, which wrapped up at the end of May.

More than 360 people took part in the challenge, exploring our properties across Essex County on their own time and at their own pace. While not intended to be a competition, more than 20 participants hiked all 55 properties included in the challenge, with several adding even more for good measure.

Congrats to all who took part! We hope you enjoyed your adventures and will keep seeking more. Check out our GreenbeltGo trails app for further inspiration: ecga.org/greenbeltgo

Art in the Barn is fast approaching, and Cox Reservation is already abuzz with activity as preparations ramp up for Friday’s public opening. Today, artists began delivering wall art, and over the coming days, table art will arrive and the exhibition and sale will fully take shape.

A heartfelt thank you to the dedicated volunteers who are helping make it all happen. From checking in artwork to hanging and displaying hundreds of pieces, their support is invaluable.

Art in the Barn takes place June 12–13 at Cox Reservation in Essex. The Opening Reception will be held on Friday, June 12, from 5:00–8:30pm. Proceeds from this event benefit Greenbelt’s land conservation efforts.

Art in the Barn is almost here — and we could use a few extra hands to help ensure its success!

Volunteering is a great way to support Greenbelt, connect with local artists, meet others in the community, and experience this special event from behind the scenes.

Now in its third decade, Art in the Barn returns June 12–13 at Cox Reservation in Essex. This beloved North Shore tradition features a juried selection of work by more than 130 regional artists and thousands of pieces spanning a wide range of media. Participating artists generously contribute 50 percent or more of their proceeds to support our mission.

Volunteer opportunities are available during the event (June 12–13) and afterward (June 16), with a variety of roles to fit different interests and schedules.

Growing season is in full swing, and we currently have a limited number of open plots available at our Young Farm Community Garden in Gloucester! These spots won’t last long, so if you’re interested in growing your own vegetables, flowers, or herbs this season, be sure to reach out soon.

To participate, gardeners must hold a Greenbelt annual membership at the Supporter level, which includes access to one garden plot, as well as opportunities to attend special events, receive conservation updates, and more. Best of all, you’ll connect with others in the Greenbelt community and help support our mission.
