Two of our own were honored at the 2026 Iron Forge District Awards on Thursday evening. Former Scoutmaster Ray Truex was awarded the District Award of Merit for his unwavering commitment at both the pack and troop levels throughout many years of dedicated service. Johnny Huntington was awarded Eagle Scout of the year. Congratulations to both on their distinguished achievements.

Our 73 unit honored local veterans on the evening of May 18th by refreshing the flags at several community cemeteries. Today, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who gave everything in service to our country. The values of courage, duty, and sacrifice that define our heroes are the same values we strive to instill in our Scouts. We will never forget. ❤️🤍💙

Troop 73’s May campout took us back to Gettysburg where most of our younger scouts along with two patrol leaders earned a few patches within the Gettysburg Heritage Trails program. Our younger scouts were able to be a lot more hands on at camp, while our older ones let their leadership skills truly shine. On yet another summer like day, scouts toured the Visitor’s Center Museum, viewed the Cyclorama, and hiked several miles of the battlefield. Bonus side quest… No trip to this area and with this crowd would be complete without a coveted trip to Mr. Ed’s Elephant Museum and Candy Emporium.

One of Troop 73's greatest moments as a Scout family is releasing another Eagle into the wild, and Sunday afternoon we gathered around Ethan Garman to celebrate his Eagle Scout award. It is been a joy to see Ethan mature through the ranks and become an outstanding leader and young man of character. Congratulations, Ethan!

Troop 73’s April State Park focused campout took place this year at French Creek. Scouts enjoyed a sunny and jam packed Saturday that felt like a taste of summer. In the morning, patrols started navigating in opposite directions on the longer orienteering course that had us ascend and descend Mt Pleasant as well as circumnavigating Hopewell Lake. Despite the distance, both patrols finished within mere minutes of one another! The afternoon was spent fishing at Scotts Run Lake and enjoying the warmer temperatures. Meals this trip had to be planned with all new recipes, which did not disappoint! Job well done tackling all the challenges of the weekend, including packing up on a rainy Sunday morning.

Troop 73 honored our veterans today at Wreaths Across America - Indiantown Gap National Cemetery serving as bus ambassadors, attending the ceremony, and placing wreaths at veterans' graves. We appreciate the service and sacrifice of those who have done our country honor by serving on one of the military branches, and wish those currently serving abroad a happy, healthy, and very merry Christmas!
