For years, EPAC has been proud to champion LGBTQ+ artists, stories, and voices on our stage. From groundbreaking contemporary works, to new play development, to our annual Q***r Voices Festival, we firmly believe that theatre should reflect the full spectrum of the human experience.

This Pride Month, we're excited to continue this tradition of creating space for stories and amplifying voices and experiences that deserve to be seen, heard, and celebrated.

The first review for EPAC's production of CHOIR BOY is out, and it is a wonderful one, courtesy of Rich Mehrenberg of BroadwayWorld!

Here's just some of what Rich had to say:

"Choir Boy explores the dual challenges associated with the intersection of racism and homophobia. Dorian “Sean” Davis stars as Pharus, a gifted singer at a preparatory school who is both Black and gay. As you might imagine, his character is the target of bullying and verbal harassment. However, Pharus can dish it out as well as he can take it, so he does not come off as a helpless victim. Davis’s portrayal is complex and layered.

Marquas Fountain is solid as Headmaster Marrow. Fountain has the strong demeanor necessary to play this authority figure with high credibility. Anthony Zbrzezny plays the doddering Mr. Pendleton with wit and style. He delivers some of the funniest lines in the show.

Choir Boy might best be described as a play with music. There are multiple songs throughout the show. The members of the student choir have remarkable harmony together. The vocals were lush. To be honest, the singing in this production was as good or better than some of the recent Ephrata musicals.

Reji Woods directs the show with efficiency and thought. While some of the show’s settings are more abstract than others, scenes are blocked with extreme clarity."

Thank you for the kind words, Rich!

CHOIR BOY resumes performances THIS THURSDAY at 7:30 PM. With only five chances left, time is running out for you to experience this incredible play for yourself!

EPAC proudly presents Tarell Alvin McCraney's CHOIR BOY, now playing through June 7th!

About the Show:
At the prestigious Charles R. Drew Prep School for Boys, tradition is everything, and the award-winning gospel choir is its crown jewel. Pharus Jonathan Young, a talented and driven student, knows he has what it takes to lead it. But in a school that prizes discipline, conformity, and a narrow definition of masculinity, standing out can come at a cost. As Pharus navigates friendship, rivalry, and the pressures placed upon him by both his peers and the institution, he must decide what it truly means to be a leader, and whether he can succeed without compromising who he is. Filled with electrifying gospel music and deeply human storytelling, Choir Boy is a moving coming-of-age story about identity, resilience, and the courage to live authentically.
