Thank you ENID AM Ambucs for honoring Firefighter Gilberto Camarena as the Firefighter of Month for August!
Gil is an Enid native whose parents moved to the area from Texas when he was young. He grew up in Enid and graduated from Pioneer High School in 2019. After graduation, Gil began working in the oilfield before spending a short time with the City of Enid Water Utilities. In 2023, he began his career with the Enid Fire Department.
Today, Gil serves as a Firefighter at Station 2. He is an EMT and is certified in Rope Rescue Levels I and II, as well as driver certified. He is also continuing his professional development through Hazmat Technician training, assuming he can pass the test!
Gil is fluent in Spanish and serves as an interpreter when needed, helping communicate with members of our community.
Outside of the fire department, Gil is the proud father of his three-year-old son, Psalm. He enjoys spending time with his family, staying active, and working out at the gym.
We’re proud to have Gil as part of the Enid Fire Department and appreciate the dedication he brings to serving the community he has called home since childhood.

Congratulations to Officer Derek Grassmann for being named ENID AM Ambucs Officer of the Month.

Derek was nominated by Sgt. Nicole Binckley for his recent work on a burglary case and was honored by the club during their meeting this morning.

Last month, Derek responded to the Cedar Ridge housing addition on a report of several vehicle burglaries involving two suspects.

Upon arriving, Derek located the two suspects, but one fled. He detained the other suspect and found them in possession of stolen property, including a firearm.

The suspect admitted to multiple vehicle burglaries with the fleeing accomplice, though he could not provide specific vehicle or residence details.

Binckley said to identify victims and the firearm's owner, Derek spent nearly four hours conducting a neighborhood canvass, successfully locating the weapon's owner and a confirmed victim to secure additional charges.

“Through subsequent resident interviews, he located the second suspect's residence, arrested him and transported him to jail, successfully removing a firearm from the street and resolving the case,” the sergeant wrote.

Derek has been with the department since April of 2024, coming to us as a certified Peace Officer from the Kingfisher Police Department.

He has served in the department’s Patrol Division on B and C shifts and is currently serving as a K-9 Officer on C-Shift with his partner Drac, a Belgian Malinois.

We are having a golf tournament Saturday, August 15th at Pheasant Run. Check in at 7:00 am and tee off at 8:00 am. Cost is $75 a player or $300 for a team. If you don’t have a team, we will put you on a team. Lunch will also be provided. Top 3 teams will win cash money. Please see attached flyer for more info.

Please join us in congratulating Officer Frank Bruno for being named ENID AM Ambucs Officer of the Month.

Frank was nominated by his supervisor for his efforts and commitment to his investigations.

Frank has been with the department for five years, previously serving as a deputy for four years in South Carolina.

He was honored this morning during the club’s meeting.
