SERVICE FUN – Enid Rotary Club members should find it fun and interesting helping with Public Art Quest this Friday. Rotarians will assist as hosts/guides from 5 to 7 p.m. Aug. 7 for a look at the jailhouse artwork inside the Garfield County Courthouse plus a special opening at the Holden Art Gallery. Rotarians also will help as young artists do their own projects at Enid public library, and anyone can take a selfie (and register for prizes!) with the "I ❤️ Enid" mural outside Enid Brewing Co. & Eatery. Come enjoy ... and stay downtown for more Main Street Enid First Friday activities from 6 to 9 p.m.

PRESIDENTIAL PLANS – Following his introduction as president of the Rotary Club of Enid, Rob Houston spoke to club members on what to expect during the club’s 2026-2027 program year. He noted that Rotary attracts people who are committed to service, who strive for excellence, and who understand that success isn't measured only by what we achieve personally but by the difference we make in the lives of others.
Noting Rotary International’s new theme "Creating Lasting Impact," Rob shared a few goals for the Rotary Club of Enid for the coming 12 months:
FIRST, get members more involved. He pointed to the Rotary slogan “Service Above Self” and encouraged participation in service work and club committee work.
SECOND, increase Enid club membership. “Membership is the fuel that powers service,” he explained. Rob set a goal of growing the Enid club from 130 members to 140 members this year.
THIRD, he wants to strengthen the connections between experienced members and our newest members. Rob noted the Enid club, which is more than 100 years old, has 34 members with more than 20 years of Rotary service and another 25 members who have served at least 10 years. He asked those tenured Rotarians to become a mentor to a younger member.

BANNER SWAP – Enid Rotary Club officers marked the change in both local and Rotary International leadership in July. Outgoing Enid club President Dave Meara removed the 2025-2026 international banner, “Unite for Good,” from the podium at the Stride Bank Center. Then, incoming Enid Rotary President Rob Houston explained and hung the banner for 2026-2027, “Create Lasting Impact.” The new theme was introduced by Rotary International President Olayinka Hakeem Babalola of Nigeria and shifts the focus of global chapters from temporary service activities to building permanent, sustainable solutions.

LEADERSHIP HANDOFF – Enid Rotary Club concluded its program year with a recap and leadership change at the first meeting in July. Outgoing club President David Meara (in sports coat) handed the gavel to incoming president Rob Houston following Meara's recap of 2025-2026 club accomplishments. Houston then presented Meara with a plaque recognizing his leadership of the 130-member service club.

PAST-PRESENT-FUTURE – Rob Houston, center, was installed as 2026-2027 president of the Rotary Club of Enid at the organization’s July 13 meeting. Standing in front of the Rotary banner are President-elect Marcie Mack and Past President Dave Meara. The Rotary year runs from July through the following June. The Enid club has 130 members and meets each Monday noon at the Stride Bank Center ballroom.

CHAMBER HONOREES – Three Enid Rotarians received top honors at the Greater Enid Chamber of Commerce annual awards banquet June 9. Dan Schiedel received the civic improvement award as president and CEO of the 100-year-old United Way of Enid and Northwest Oklahoma. Rob Stallings received the citizen of the year award recognizing his longtime involvement in state and local community service, including two terms on the Enid City Commission. Brady Sidwell was named business person of the year. He was cited for his many entrepreneurial ventures, most focused on agricultural products and services. He also has a robust international business background and serves on the Oklahoma branch of the Kansas City Federal Reserve board. Congratulations, gentlemen!

Rotary Member Spotlight, incoming President Rob Houston was recognized by the Oklahoma Travel Industry Association. Congratulations Rob!

Executive Committee Spotlight

Meet Rob Houston, Vice Chair of the Oklahoma Travel Industry Association and Director of Visit Enid.

Since helping launch Visit Enid in 2010, Rob has been a driving force in elevating Enid’s profile as a destination for visitors, events, and economic growth. He is especially proud of helping put Enid back in the spotlight and supporting the success of major events like the NJCAA Division II World Series, which will now remain in Enid through 2038.

Rob is excited about the future of Oklahoma tourism and the opportunity for communities across the state to continue growing through strong industry partnerships and leadership.

Fun fact: Rob was once a member of the Washington Generals basketball team for a night and even made two free throws during a Harlem Globetrotters game in front of 6,000 fans!

SPEAKING BUZZ: I was invited to speak to the Rotary Club of Enid today about Enid Buzz. A really great cross section of Enid movers and shakers if you’re looking for a civic group to join. In my defense, I wasn’t the only one there in shorts. Dr. Olson was showing his legs as well! Thanks for the invite!
