This application follows a previous rejection by the Medical Services Advisory Committee, which found the evidence of clinical effectiveness “highly uncertain and not well supported.” Critics, including Genspect Australia and the LGB Alliance, point to high complication rates, weak long-term data, and the irreversible nature of these interventions.

For decades, medical transition was promoted based on psychological theories rather than strong scientific evidence. Early studies showed that 80–90% of gender dysphoric children naturally desisted, yet these experimental interventions were still extended to minors. The current political divide often obscures the core problem: these practices were expanded without rigorous long-term research or proper ethical caution. Lasting, stable policy will require honesty about what was done — and what should never have been done in the first place.

Tomorrow, the North Carolina Court of Appeals will hear oral arguments in detransitioner Prisha Mosley’s case. Mosley alleges that as a minor, she was rushed into testosterone and a double mastectomy without proper evaluation of her trauma and mental health issues. A lower court had dismissed parts of her lawsuit, but she is now appealing. This case could have significant implications for medical accountability in pediatric gender medicine. We’ll be watching closely.

Jordan Campbell, who previously ran the first U.S. law firm dedicated to representing detransitioners, is now serving as a Deputy Assistant Attorney General at the Department of Justice. In that role, he is leading enforcement actions against healthcare providers offering gender-transition treatments to minors. (The WSJ article downplays his background in detransition litigation while framing his move to the DOJ as unusual.)

Campbell’s work has contributed to at least six major hospital systems — including Mount Sinai, NYU Langone, Cleveland Clinic, Texas Children’s, and others — agreeing to shut down their youth gender clinics and pay fines as part of settlements with the Justice Department. Several hospitals have also agreed to provide free medical care to former patients who wish to detransition or treat side effects.

Campbell has said his motivation comes from speaking with detransitioners who allege they were pressured into medical transition as minors, often after being told their mental health issues would only be resolved through hormones and surgery. The Justice Department continues to pursue additional investigations into other providers.

To our supporters: please read and sign this Change.org petition calling on Maryland Attorney General Anthony Brown to investigate whether the use of puberty blockers, anti-androgens, and cross-s*x hormones on minors constitutes child abuse under Maryland law.

The petition outlines the serious and well-documented toxic effects of these interventions — including impacts on bone density, fertility, liver function, cardiovascular health, and more — and argues that administering them to physically healthy children may violate existing child abuse statutes. It notes that Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has already taken the position that these interventions violate state law.

The petition requests that Attorney General Brown appoint a task force to examine whether these practices meet Maryland’s legal definition of child abuse, which includes physical injury that creates a substantial risk of death or causes permanent or protracted serious disfigurement or impairment of bodily function.

At least six major hospitals across the country — including Mount Sinai Health System, NYU Langone, Cleveland Clinic, Texas Children’s Hospital, Connecticut Children’s, and UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh — have reached settlements with the Justice Department to stop providing gender-transition treatments to minors.

The agreements require the hospitals to pay fines and, in some cases, provide free medical care to former patients who wish to detransition or treat side effects. The Justice Department has said it is continuing to seek similar agreements with other hospitals.

While some hospitals denied wrongdoing, the settlements come after investigations into potential violations of the False Claims Act and other federal health care laws. Critics have accused hospitals of overbilling insurers for these procedures.

This marks a significant development in holding medical institutions accountable for the experimental and often irreversible interventions performed on gender-distressed minors.

A new Finnish nationwide study followed more than 2,000 adolescents referred to gender clinics and compared them to over 16,000 matched population controls. The gender-referred group had significantly higher psychiatric treatment needs both before and after referral. Among those who underwent hormones or surgery, psychiatric needs increased during follow-up. After adjusting for prior mental health issues, all gender-referred youth had similarly elevated risks — whether they sought gender-related interventions or not. This adds to growing evidence that severe psychiatric problems are common in this group and are not cured by hormones or gender surgeries.

In the 2010s, the "Informed Consent" model removed most of that gatekeeping, allowing patients to begin hormones after minimal visits based largely on self-attestation. This change was driven more by activist pressure and the claim that withholding treatment would cause su***de than by strong new evidence.
