We. Are. SO. Back! Yep, back to school as they say. Hope you enjoyed your vacation from Thursdays in August. We have missed you and we are back with a fresh line up of interesting topics for September. Our theme this month is "Mind, Body, Spirit and Soul" and we'll be hearing something from each of these categories over the next 4 weeks. Mary kicks us off with our nod to the MIND--"Rational Christian Thinking". What happens when our emotions get ahead of us? We hope to see you in person (or via Zoom) this week as we return to group for the Fall!

Are ya surviving the heat? We're wrapping up our July theme "Restless Ache" this Thursday (in person) and it's our last group until September 3rd, (as August will be our Summer Break from Thursdays) We've been exploring all the things we run towards to fill those aching longings and using the 7 Deadly Sins as a backdrop. I think the reason they are called the "deadly sins" is because they can be very subtle (like pride, envy etc)...this week we'll be exploring "sloth"--it's not really laziness, but a slow neglect of things that keep us spiritually engaged with God and others. It's been an interesting deep dive. The WGA staff will still be keeping office hours during August so we hope to see you for coffee or other fun gatherings!

Check out Mary's article where she sheds light on some of the beginnings of Where Grace Abounds.

Prayers were often panicky and straight to the point in the early years of Where Grace Abounds (WGA). The fundamental questions for me were rooted in how to apply the convictions and call on my life. One such question haunted me hourly. “ What exactly is the approach, the environment, in which God...

We're wrapping up our last 2 Thursdays before Summer Break in August and our theme for July--"Restless Ache". St Augustine says "You have made us for Yourself, O Lord, and our hearts will be restless till we find our rest in You"--We've been exploring those things we run to when our hearts our are longing through the 7 deadly sins--we've looked at pride & gluttony and this week we'll look at "lust". One of the questions we've been exploring is how these sins effect our emotions (and our movie Inside Out 2 last week)--are we eating/drinking our emotions? Numbing our emotions? What are the legitimate God-given needs underneath? We'll explore these questions via Zoom this week!

It's WGA Night @ the Movies! This Thursday we'll be watching Disney's "Inside Out 2"--Thirteen-year-old Riley tackles high school with her personified emotions guiding her decisions. Soon her newfound feelings cause turmoil and force her to redefine her sense of self. We'll be starting the film at 7:15 after a few quick announcements. The movie is 1 hour and 36 minutes and we'll have some time for discussion afterwards--there will be no small group that evening. Bring your favorite movies snacks! Just a reminder--we've got 2 group meetings left for the Summer and we'll be on break through August, returning to our usual schedule in September.

This Thursday via Zoom, we'll continue to explore our theme "Restless Ache"--and St. Augustine's quote: "You have made us for Yourself, O Lord and we will not rest until we find our rest in You." What things do we try to fill that longing and desire? How does this increase our suffering? How does this impact our emotions? We'll be using some of the 7 Deadly Sins as a filter for these questions: this week we'll explore Gluttony Vs. Moderation--are you eating or drinking your emotions? We'll always look at these with a "redemptive eye" and how God can transform. Next Thursday will be WGA Night @ the Movies and we'll be watching "Inside Out 2" Bring movie snacks!
