Founded in 1974, Sansui-Kai Bonsai Club is a Southern California non-profit organization made up of Bonsai enthusiasts and professionals dedicated to the learning, use and teaching of the horticultural techniques and artistic principles needed to grow, design and care for Bonsai.

Thanks to Daniel Deephouse for explaining how to prepare trees for show. Our September 13th show at the Japanese Garden in Van Nuys, is right around the corner. We have about 28 to 30 submittals and have planned the placements for the show. Please let others know about our show and the Japanese Garden! There will be more information coming by email as the show gets closer. There will be no regular Sansui Kai meeting in September.

Thanks to Josh Miller and Rick Nabor for their insites to Boxwoods as Bonsai. The handout that Josh put together is a helpful thing to keep on hand.
Our August 12th meeting will be a" prepare your tree for exhibit" discussion with our own Daniel Deephouse. Daniel has done these types of meetings for other clubs. If you have questions, bring the tree(s) that you would like to show to the meeting. Lets all get ready for our September 13th show at the Japanese Garden!

Thanks again to Michael Roberts for his mentorship in building our elm forests! we will be planting them on slabs in a speacial December meeting! Our July 8th meeting will be a boxwood demo by member and past President, Josh Miller and member Rick Nabor. This will be an intertaining night! The demo tree will be in the raffle!

Thanks to Daniel Deephouse for working with our members in refiningtheir trees at the April Meeting. Thanks to Rick Nabor and Daniel for moving trees and members to the building in order to avoid the scafolds. Our May meeting will be a demo by Philippe Baron.
Philippe Baron is a Los Angeles - based bonsai artist with over 20 years of dedicated practice and study. He has trained extensively with Mauro Stemberger for the past nine years, contributing to the care and development of trees in private collections across the region and traveling to Italy to work on Stemberger’s collection.
He currently helps maintain the exquisite bonsai collection of Hank Fawcett and works with Daniel Deephouse, Assistant Curator of Bonsai at the Huntington Library and Gardens. Philippe’s approach to bonsai is deeply aesthetic, devoted to cultivating beauty at every stage of a tree’s evolution, and guided by a continual pursuit of study and refinement.
