Last night we got to celebrate Area 16 student accomplishments at the annual Area 16 banquet. Our Knowledge team was recognized for receiving 2nd place at Area LDEs. Members Eleanor Feeler, Jozee O’Neail, and Josh Rayfield received blue ribbons for their efforts.

Abby Bass received 1st place for her Food Service Proficiency project as well as her Area Degree.

And finally our chapter received the Area 16 Single Ag Teacher Sweepstakes award. This award is given to a chapter based on a points system where you earn points for involvement & proficiency in Career Development Events and Leadership Development Events. We are incredibly honored to receive this award and are so proud of all the hard work our members put in to achieve this accomplishment this year!

We are honored and incredibly proud to announce that Abby Bass has officially earned her Missouri FFA State Degree!

The Missouri FFA State Degree is the highest honor awarded by the Missouri FFA Association. It recognizes members who demonstrate outstanding leadership, dedication to their Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE), and commitment to service beyond the chapter level.
To earn this degree, members must:
• Be an active FFA member for at least two years
• Previously earn their Chapter FFA Degree
• Invest at least $1,000 or work 300+ hours in their SAE
• Participate in FFA activities above the chapter level
• Complete community service hours
• Demonstrate knowledge of parliamentary procedure

Abby is the FIRST member in our chapter to earn the Missouri FFA State Degree since we were chartered just three years ago — and we could not be more proud. Her hard work, leadership, and dedication to agriculture truly represent what FFA is all about.

Please join us in congratulating Abby for this amazing achievement!

We had an absolute blast at Missouri FFA’s 98th State Convention!!! We started the trip with a general session where we saw Abby Bass win 2nd in the state with her Food Service SAE!!!

The next day we spent time touring the MU Jefferson Farm & Garden! The students had the opportunity to tour the farm where they learned all about the cool things they are doing there to make agriculture accessible to all people, regardless of physical ability or socioeconomic status. We also got a chance to do some fishing while we were there. We spent some time at the mall later that afternoon & rounded out the day seeing the new Mario movie!

Friday brought an awesome opportunity to tour the career show! It was so big this year that it took up two different level of the Hearnes building! Students had the opportunity to meet people from across the agricultural industry & speak to representatives from hundreds of colleges, universities, and trade schools! We rounded out Friday by seeing Abby Bass become the first person from Ellington to ever receive their State FFA Degree!!!

Our 6 contest teams also had a great week at state & did an amazing job representing our chapter! Their hard work & dedication really paid off! We can’t wait until next year for another great convention!!!

We wrapped up District contests on Monday and we couldn’t be more proud of our members and all their hard work! Last Thursday our Livestock team placed 13th, missing state by less than 70 points & our Floriculture team placed 5th and will be headed to State competition!

On Monday, the Ag Sales, Entomology, Knowledge, and Meats teams all travelled to Poplar Bluff for their district competitions. Ag Sales placed 3rd, Entomology placed 4th, Knowledge placed 3rd, and Meats placed 6th! Ag Sales, Entomology, and Knowledge are all State bound!!! Meats missed state by just a few placings. It was an incredibly successful start to contest season for our chapter! We can’t wait to see what State has in store for us!

This evening our Greenhand members attended the Area 16 Greenhand Motivational Conference in Poplar Bluff.

They participated in interactive workshops and skits to build their character skills, explore talents, and reach outside their comfort zones for the opportunities provided through FFA membership. They all have bright futures in FFA!
